I love how people get angry with stuff like this...   Get over it a!!!! Not everyone is lucky enough to have a boat or are even fisherman for that matter and people gotta eat...  Pretty sweet way to make a living i recon... All fisherys in WA are so tightly managed and they are all on quotas so that they are sustainable..

Great haul mate...   Where is it out of??  Ill be work travelling the country would love to experence this kind of commercial fishing if you guys ever need a fill in crewie (worked cray boats for the last 3 and a bit years) so im pretty capable on a boat..

I agree with the post above, the knockers need to get over it.  Adam put a post up only a day or so ago asking if people were interested in seeing some pics from the pros.  Most responses were in the positive.  If one of the pros put a pic up of a deck full of sharks from around Exy I'm sure there would be little negative feedback.

Awwwwww you guys! you trying to tell me that your entitled to catch your quota but im not? it costs a million dollars just to start fishing fellas , and trust me its not easy going. the spots i fish you'll never even get close to fishing, so dont stress about me taking your fish.you ever bought fish n chips ozzy? can of tuna? cat food? if so then your supporting a commercial fishing industry that makes mine look like childs play.oh but thats right, it doesnt happen here so who cares right?

and mattmiller seriously mate? have a look at your profile pic. when i see a pic of that fish swimming off, you can say what you like. to the other fellas thanks for the response. sharks can be a drama sometimes, other times not so much. in all honesty we barely scrape the surface of whats out there, and i dont reckon anyone would have dropped a hook, or ever will on any of my spots.and seeing as though the responses from people was mostly positive, ill put a couple more up. ozzy, mattmiller and all the other uneducated haters, i'll advise you probably won't like it much. next time you get your bag limit or boat limit, think about how many other people that day, weekend or week did as well. you 'll find the stats eclipse what im capable of doing in a week. buts its alright your allowed to aren't you? well so am i. keep killin your spots, and you 'll be buyin my product soon enough.

Ive got the shark pics but AINT gonna put them up here!

Mr wetliner Id be reasonably sure we have met on or off shore up there at some stage in the past.

More pics mate, maybe I'll chuck up some from the old days as well...

Mon, 2013-03-18 10:56

A lot of pro's farm their spots/ground, fish it and leave it for a some time to recoup, rec fishers keep hitting the same grounds over and over, take the south west bank or the 5 fathom bank, hammered. GPS spots passed onto mates who pass it onto others, next thing grounds flogged/ fished out.

Good point wetliner,

Some of the younger fishers dont know what the fishing was like 15-20 years ago, taking how it is today as the norm.

Some dont understand that pro's dont hammer their grounds but farm it

Farming spots

Mon, 2013-03-18 13:46

We used to farm spots while chasing dhueys down south, if we'd see 5 fish on a lump, take 2 or 3 then move to next lump, now its see 5 take 5 because they are not going to be there next time if the spot is in range of rec boats.

During the day we'd fish the deep spots out of reach of the recs and come in at night or when it was too rough for small boats to fish the  inshore spots.

no need to get your knickers in a knot Wetliner.

My comment was more directed at the do gooders and greenies who frequent rec forums like this and feed on mass kill shots and other 'interesting' posts.

As i'm sure Adam can advise he has to deal with alot of bullshit on this site and sometimes we have to be a little careful to not fuel the fire.

ps. not interesting in getting involved in any pointless name calling and over reactions

Sun, 2013-03-17 00:00

Maybe you should tell everyone that you are legally allowed to catch what you do. Seems that you are a commercial enterprise, if so then tell us that. If that's your business then good onya. This is an amatuer fishing site there's no sport in dropping long wet lines.

If it's on this site then I'm interested. What I'm saying is give us a bit more backround on yourself and what you're doing, you won't get so much negative feed back. It been said on on here before the greenies love this type of stuff and use it to tear us fisho's a new ahole. Don't give them the ammo. Your other posts are good.

One only had to see a bunch of dropline hooks and clips plus the big hydraulic / electric reel to work out it was a pro boat.

Probably 30 hooks to a drop depending on what shows on the screen

The best I've seen is 23 nannygai  out of 30 hooks down south but think son copped a full set once.

The devil you do, the devil you don't mate

Mon, 2013-03-18 08:04

Australia has one of the most regulated fishing industries going around. Notice I use the term "industry". That's what it is and it's a very important part of our economy. Personally I support inclusion of professional fishers on this site. It's an opportunity to glean opinions from the pros themselves. Let's face it, they know what's going on. We can just assume....

Wetling is an approved method of harvesting the crop so to speak. I don't see a lot wrong with someone posting pictures of the harvet taking place although I agree that "brag shots" alone will generate negative feedback from those who are green or who are paranoid about what the greenies may think. Personally I don't give a rats arse what they think. I care more about what we do.

is of fish caught in 240 metres, probably my favourtie depth for big numbers of medium sized ruby's. not saying there arent fish deeper or shallower, the best spot ive ever seen was in 280, the biggest fish ive ever caught were in 380( not many rubys under 20 kg in that depth) but for numbers, that 240-270 area is riddled with spots. they don't have to be big looking spots either, my mate used to swear by only fishing the coral in the deepwater, not the big shows. he caught a lot of rubys, probably ,more than anyone on the coast at the time. i fished the big shows and got heaps of fish, probably bigger, quicker hits than he did. i love  ruby fishing but in all honesty i try not to bring in to many becuase it floods the market, bringing the price down. i'd limit my self to 2 ton, most of the time bringing in 1 ton. i found if you brought in 3 or 4 ton of rubys, you would get the same amount of money if you bought in a ton of rubys and a ton of goldies, maybe with a bit of mixed. not many people realise that we farm our spots accordingly. why kill 4 ton of fish at once when i could get top dollar for all of them 4 trips in a row?

Hey wetliner, don't ever get put off by the minority 'keyboard warriors' on this site that seldom go fishing themselves... or when they do it's a epic 'one off!' capture on somebody elses boat and then they think they know everything!

Most of us who fish most weekends are all for interacting with our commercial counterparts!

I will be up north chasing Rubys in the next few weeks, but even though you haven't given too many of your secrets away, you have given me a valuable insite into where possibly to fish.

Cheers mate.

Good luck wetliner, some of my best mates work this industry down south and are always copping a hard time from the do gooders. The biggest problem they are having now is some of the rec boats are trying to follow them out to find their spots. They farm the same way and try not too flood the market, it's a business that they want to keep sustainable for their own good!

Keep up the awesome fishing
