Blue Marlin PGFC Comp
Submitted by JohnF on Sun, 2022-02-20 14:20
First marlin of the comp was tagged by us on Shake and Bake (Contender 25).
We were one of the smaller boats in the field but the boat went well, we were third to the FADS after the Invincible (wow, 1200hp...) and the Regulator 28.
Troy was on the reel and manned up after having a spew 5 minutes before after a heavy night at Rotto on Friday, Bodie leaded his first blue marlin and did great, I was on the wheel and tagging duties.
Great fun.

I believe Saturday was about
I believe Saturday was about 6-5-2, 2-1-0 today, may have been more hookups but there were a lot of big tuna about so can't vouch for all the hookups.

Nice work guys!
I was on Miss Chief, we saw your hookup and the fish going off.
I've got some shots of you fighting the fish; I'll grab them off my camera later today.

Did you sell the Regulator you had a few years ago?

No, still got my share of the Regulator 28, it's a beast. We got 4 metro marlin on it last year.
Sold my boston Whaler 235 and put the proceeds toward the Contender 25 together with Bodie, who sold his Fury 26. We are 50 50 partners, the Contender is our Exxy boat.
The shared boat thing works great for us, but we are all pretty good mates.
The Contender is a little beast. And will be the ultimate exxy trailer boat I think.

Nice
I reckon the Contender 25 is the perfect Exmouth boat. Big enough to fish Tantabiddi even on marginal days and small enough to do the gulf side.

You should buy one and leave it up there.

Yep same area
All the fish hooked and tagged were in that same 2 mile radius area.
Miss Chief will be at Gamex next year. Doing the Abrolhos tournament in a few weeks.

I have never seen a boat go
I have never seen a boat go like that Invincible. Never thought I would see a boat make the Regulator look slow, but that thing rips

The oys on the Reg clocked
The oys on the Reg clocked 49 knots when the Invincible ripped past them like they were standing still.
Den on the Regulator has some great video footage.

I was on One Shot which was the start boat. We went south on Saturday and while the water was warm and looked good, we didn't see a thing. We were in that same area as the other boats yesterday but didn't do any good. Probably a good thing for a couple of our crew after a big night at Gov's on Saturday!
John I think your numbers are about right. There were perhaps 2 or 3 fish that were raised but not hooked. A couple of the hookups were very brief and may not have counted in that tally. Shame you boys on Miss Chief dropped that one yesterday. Voyager on Saturday lost a big one that almost spooled them despite backing down on it. Ian has seen a fair few fish over the years but reckons this was a much bigger fish. A good comp overall.
You guys did great on Shake and Bake. Watching you, the Invincible and the Regulator etc. race off after the shotgun start was awesome!

Yep was a fantasic weekend,
Yep was a fantasic weekend, pumped to get a fish too, first for our new toy.
We fished Friday as well, weather was sensational, marked i think 3 fish on the sounder that day, just couldnt get one to come up. We had a few cans friday which troy tasted for a second time on saturday :)
The shotgun start was awesome! John gave it the berries off the line but the big girls were always going to mow us down after a few hundred meters! The reg got some awesome footage of it
Saw Miss Chief come back in saturday arvo, just powered through the slop.
John, told you that was an Invincible!!

Great stuff Bodie! While you guys with the big doubles/triples/quads were a very cool sight I've got a lot of respect for Chris and Heath on Flow Fishing. Pretty small ali CC and they were out there on Sunday with the big boats. You couldn't see them until you were almost on top of them!
We had a good run home on the big Caribbean too.

I was surprised
Got out to the grounds, put the gear out - it was pretty sporty even for the big boats with wind over current and swell running. I look over about an hour later and thought WTF? There's the lads on the little ali centre console!!
Heard you guys had a liquor cabinet incident?

Yeah we got hit by a real big one at a bad angle and the whole grog drawer ripped out! Did a bit of damage but thankfully only a bottle of gin smashed.
