How were the conditions out
How were the conditions out there today? It seemed a little breezy on the mainland. Are the sharks really that much of an issue already?

G'day Ron, I just got off
G'day Ron, I just got off the phone from Jamie, and that was him out there.
It sounds as though it was a bit of a tough one for most. It doesn't really sound as though they are there in big numbers yet. Hopefully they will coincide with my boat being fixed!!

Back from dinner; Hi Ron,
Back from dinner;
Hi Ron, I waved, I sort of guessed it was you guys out for another go!
The AJ school was between 30m and 50m and pretty fast moving. Once you found them, you had to get something in front of them! I did a few times, first time I boated that fish, second time I got cut off. Grayzeee did a great job hovering over them with the some fancy throttle work which really helped. The whole time I was there I only saw a few skippy landed, and one head come up, so Grayzeee and I pushed off.
I saw a lot of people speedjigging, I guess they were after the Sambos, the AJs seem to like a slower jig in a more flowing style.
We had picked up some Tuna on the way out, a few rat sambos down at the Southern Barge and then a fairly quiet run in.
IMHO, its probably not worth going back out till the Sambos start firing, there are too many sharks and the AJs are pretty unreliable, if today was anything to go by.

Hah when we left we noticed
Hah when we left we noticed a few boats heading our way, I think they worked out what we were doing. The sharks meant I wasn't going to get a second one on PE2 and we decided against hanging around to catch them on PE4, they just aren't that big.
The only depth is to try is the one that is showing fish! We were trying to put the jig in front of their noses, bit of a guess without metered braid!

Yep great day out on the water
Met a great bunch of blokes,
Was a hard days jigging but we managed a number of hookups and bust offs, boated 5 amberjacks as well as a heap of herring caught on the way out.
Also managed a nice stop off at the rotto pub for a few beers and a feed on the way home, the rottnest air hosties worth a mention ;) doesnt get too much better :)
Thanks again seaswirl, greatly appreciated.

Till, that WAS you and
Till, that WAS you and Grayzee........jeeze, me, Kane, Hoookt and Seaswirl were all thinking it might be you guys but werent sure.....
Also saw Fisho Ron, who looked to be doing it tough.......keep going mate, it is worth it for that big hook-up....but I am seriously sore after 3 jig sessions in 7 days.
Yeah, very slow, with short periods of madness when you got on top of the school. Triple hookup was fun for sure, with skipper SeaSwirl even leaving the tiller after Kane busted off and chucked a jig in and hooked up on his Saltist outfit to lure the sharks away...haha....cheers mate, a true team player!
Lost 2 nice jigs and one Williamson (I started to learn....anything Japanese got benched.....) to sharks at which point I never went below 40 m deep and then boated a few, but agree with Till, best to leave it alone for several weeks, let the sharks bugga off and wait for the Sambos.....the former not likely I know.
Top stuff Seawirl for a great day on the water, thanks mate, was fun being a deckie on someone elses boat for a change. Kane and Hoookt were the other deckies and designated jiggers, great blokes. Was really tough work and by lunch time, we had zero on the boat, very sore arms, 6 lost jigs and it was looking like a fishless day (for us, not the sharks) but it livened up after lunch and ended OK.
Slow days like that certainly make you work at an economical jigging technique, and all three of us changed rods, speed etc numerous times much to SeaSwirls amusement, but sharks meant we had to go back to the +PE5 stuff and locked drags.....man those Ambers go hard for sub 10 kg fish when you put the acid on them.....maybe it was the half tonne of shark up its clacker!
Beers at the pub was a great way to finish off, the "hosties" were certainly a nice addition to the scenery!
Cheers boys to a good day filled with plenty of laughs and a few fish to boot.

yer john, we didnt get a
yer john, we didnt get a touch this time, we wernt the only ones that did it tough.. but we will keep trying, we were down to the bottom half mostly as thats were the fish were showing on my sounder. with only a few fish showing up at 40mtrs , but maybe thats why we didnt get a touch, would be keen to here from others as to what depths they got theres.
it was a lot better with the new rod/reel,(samaki/exerler 6500) next time out it will be with the new monster mesh/saltist 30 as well.
as kane said...hats of to the boys in the little tinny on a day like that, wouldnt of caught me dead in it, we nearly canned it on the way out as it was and were in a 6.5 mtr boat, i think the bearu got it wrong again.
seaswirl...love the boat man, how does she perform?
when were looking to upgrade that would be one boat on the list for sure, along with the 8mrt patriot.
cheers guys and see you out there next weak????????
