45 second Mahi Mahi

Took the boat to Andt Atoll on Saturday for a spot of snorkeling with the wife and a couple of friends. I knew it wasn't going to be a 'fishing day' but the rods went in the boat either way. On the way we saw a couple of the 'right kind of birds' so I headed towards them and streamed a couple of lures. My Oceanside richter lure was in the water for 45 seconds, I hadn't even engaged the drag when it got hit. About three minutes later it was inboard and on ice and eaten fresh for dinner last night.

Fishing in Micronesia
Hi Russ and Sandy. Loving it over here. Haven't done near as much fishing as I want to as the weather isn't the best for it at this time of year, only getting out once a fortnight. Come late April I'll be into it a whole lot more.

Nice catch and on the target lure. Hows dollies on the plate. The meat looks fishy so I have never tried them?
Cheers

I'm over here for work for the next three years. Crappy job I have. Dollies are top shelf eating, especially when eaten fresh. They freeze well but are best straight off the fish.

Beautiful eating. Probably
Beautiful eating. Probably my favourite (and favourite to catch too). Its a bit stronger than dhuie/snapper/etc but thats not a bad thing if the flavours are right. The key is to not overcook it. If you do it comes out pretty average and boring, but cook it til its just done (or even slightly under) and it has a wonderful sweet flavour. Goes well with a cream sauce (coconut or dairy) too. I always bleed and ice slurry (dont know how much it affects things as its the only way :p)

They freeze well up there?
Most people consider the local ones freeze poorly, its a very soft meat and best eaten fresh, but they are tasty.

Tasty
Fish doesn't generally stay any longer than a month in my freezer, so based on that they still taste great.

Cheers all for the eating info!
Now just have to see if there is a population of these beauties up here in Damps.
At least with their extreme growth rate I wont feel to guilty taking one or 2 for the plate.
