wtb saltist or saragosa

Hi Guys
I am looking at a new combo for high speen spinning off the rocks at quobba/steep on a pe4-6 rod
so far in my budget i have come across the shimano saragosa 18000F vs the Daiwa Saltist 6500 and I am having a tough time deciding the saltist has a better ratio 6:2:1 saragosa has 4:9:1 the saltist winds 134 cm per rotation and saragosa 104cm the satist has 30kg of drag and the saragosa.
On paper the saltist looks better with a faster retrieve but i have heard the sargosa may me tougher especially when my target species are mackies.
anyone used these and recomend one over another

Just to clear things up i'm pretty sure the saltist only gets up to 15kg, and the 30kg was a typo on the box.
Tough call this one actually, There is a big line retrieve difference there. Depends how fast you want to wind ^_^
The saragosa gets my vote for reliability. But it would be insteresting to see the weight difference between both reels.
Do you know what rod you are sticking it on? Might pay to see which one balances better as long days spinning may start to show fatigue if the rod is tip heavy etc.
Also what line class have you decided on?

30kg was a typo error,
30kg was a typo error, saying that 15kg is more then ample for what your doing.
if your fishing braid line capacity will be fine on both reels
as far as retrieval rate goes the saltist would be the way to go at 6:2:1
as far as quality goes both reels would be on par, for what you are doing the saltist would be the better of the two and im pretty sure they are a little cheaper then the saragosa

the saltist is 200g lighter
the saltist is 200g lighter and according to the spec sheets holds more line of which i will be using 50lb braid. retrievel prob is the most important thing the rod will prob be a 8-10ft PE4-6 not sure on which 1 yet got a few i am looking at. price wise saltist is only about $20 cheaper from wat i have seen so far.

saragosa for me
Ive got both the saltist and the saragosa and i much prefer the saragosa. Alot smoother drag and mite be a litle heavier but also feels alot stronger. The saltist will still do the job sufficiently though.

90% of my fishing is high speed spinning...if i had a choice between high and low geared i know which way i'd be heading.
Especially for macks and tuna the faster the lure moves the more interest you'll get.

I dont see why you would need even 15kg of drag for mackies unless sharks are a problem but in my opinion, as said, the higher retrieve rate would help working slices ect. good luck mate

cheers nath, they are that price on mo tackle also. Cambells will do it for $349 witha power knob. after googling this subject it seems it has been a pretty big source of discussion saltist v saragosa on alot of other fishing websites world wide.

For that sort of money I'd be taking a long look at one of these and a spare reel for parts. Rock solid reels and the only change worth making is drag washers.
BTW they retail for $300ish each here......

Maybe a smaller reel for spinning Steep/Quobba?
They can get heavy over a day of casting.

those okuma's look good, however they dont match the cranking speed of the saltiga but are faster than the saragosa and cheaper

I guess it all comes down to personal preference, I hate to say it though but the faster line retrieve is a big difference. In other aspects of fishing not so much, but in high speed spinning off the rocks it makes a big difference.
Do what i'd do and buy both! (Love being single)

high speed spinning = high speed reel you dont have to be the most inteligent person in the world to realise that maybe the saltist is gonna be the better reel in this situation..... as for strenght you will not break a saltist or a gosa . in this situation saltist hands down

these are light enough for
these are light enough for me i do most of my surf casting witha penn 950 and a heavy rod. either of these reels weigh about a quater of that

I've got a 6500 Saltist for
I've got a 6500 Saltist for Popping and it works a treat and will handle itself nicely for your intended purpose but perhaps a 4500 would be more suited, i know it wears me out chucking the 6500 around in anger for a few hours
