I just fitted rope (Dyneema) to my 6.1m Ally and it is so much easier than using wire. Purchased it from Bias (Claremont). So far so good and it is rated for 3.5 tonne
definently go the dyneema over wire anyday... the webbing is also but ive had both and the rope is awesome...same as fishyfingers said no folding at all and no splinters in the fingers! love it.. relatively cheap too i think? purchased mine up north few yrs back
Braided rope looks popular but it hasn't left an impression on me it seems. Steel rope sure has, its awful and I was very happy to swap winches to one with webbing on it instead!
dyneema rope over webbing, i have webbing on my boat and although it craps all over having steel or Stainless wire rope, it does thend to fold back onto itself as you're winding on, my mate has dyneema rope and its awesome.

Rope over webbing any day
I have a 6m glass boat and it's great, no folding of the webbing and no splinters from the wire!

Go the braided rope over
Go the braided rope over webbing. It's top stuff. Have it on the old boat and when the webbing is due for a change on the new boat, I will use braid.
