In their day they were the "ants pants",one of the best on the market,if you were a pro fisherman and didn't have one you weren't in the race.
Certainly anything was better than swinging a heavy lead line with markings every fathom the get the depth and putting dripping on the lead to find what type of bottom you were on wasn't fun I can tell you
