We release more than we keep by miles. But if a nice eating fish hit the deck it has no chance. We both love firm white fish so reds, NW snapps, jacks, Fingermark and esp Coral trout will end up in the esky, but we only take it for a fresh feed and dont freeze any.

im a bit of both as im the only one at home that eats fish its not always about filling the esky/freezer, i mainly fish for the sport and fun in it and a feed is a bonus

i do both, usually only keeping the white meat fish.

if a Baldie or a coral trout come over the side....in the esky they go.

If a shark, mackerel, tailor (usually) go back.

fishing from the beach its more release than keep. Must be doing something wrong.

The real problem is when the bite is fast you don't want to waste time prepping them for the esky so catch and release gets you more action!

but as above nothing wrong with one or two table fish, just enough for a feed.

yea gotta say bit of sport bit of eating nothin beats fresh fish

A bit of both.  Fishing freshwater in uk apart from trout all fish have to go back, sothats defo for the sport.  I love sea fishing and will keep fish that is good for a feed, but will not go overboard and will only take what I need as the future of the sport is farb more important than being greedy....great question.

My family eats all fish. We love it! I release most of what I catch and only freeze fish if I'm on a trip up North. In Perth if I'm not eating my catch fresh it goes back. My family eats heaps of fish and I havn't bought fish for years. Cockburn Sound and Hillaries has been providing us with all the King George, Tailor, Bream, Squid and big Skippy we need for years. My Northern trips provide all the "thick white meat" we need but I must admit I love going up twice a year and my wife doesn't mind me going because she loves her fish.

I have enough frozen fillets in the freezer from up north as backup to last me a fair while, If fishing metro if I cant eat it fresh it will go back, also depends on if the fish will go back ok also.

I dont know why but i hate throwing a fish back when it bobs on the surface for a while then a bloody sea gull comes along and gets it. Id rather keep it in the esky than let the birds get to it.

Like to eat quality fish and mostly target them anything not big enough or in some cases too big go straight back.Will sometimes drag a lure between spots for a mackie if someone wants one but otherwise won't touch them [don't like eating them].I don't like eating fish if the bones are thinner than a match head so that leaves whiting out though the missus loves them,[have to keep in the good books]

Most go back, but will keep a couple of decent fish for a feed.

Generally Pinky and Dhuie if just over legal size, KGs if they are big and any decent size Mahi and Tuna.  Can't really be bothered with the rest and the big Dhuies are a pain to process.

Love releasing fish. Only keep the odd one once in a blue moon, mainly because I can't be bothered cleaning them at home too. heh

I fish for the sake of fishing but I also take just enough fish to eat fresh.  I am not into catching heaps of fish and freezing them for later.  One thing I have about charter boats is that some operators seem hell bent on filling their catch box even after you tell them that you dont want any more fish!

I love just being on the water not knowing what will come up next but also like a feed of fresh fish.

Kept a salmon to eat on the weekend as i haven't tried it before........won't do that again

Probably 90% of what I catch goes back...I do like to keep a couple of mahis each year 'cause we only get a shot at them for a short period of time, and I only bottom fish if the family starts grizzling for a feed 'cause almost everything else is let go!

I do both, catch for a feed and for sport, but I only take what I really want and need. I let heaps go.. I will go out and come back with none, catch heaps, take a pic and release and come home with no fish.. and I feel great.. great therapy.

I don’t see the point taking fish home for the sake of it and to pile it up in the freezer, fish fresh is best and hy pile it when you can always go and catch it!

I fish for marlin lots and don't really keep any bycatch unless its stuffed.  When I know that either me or the missus is heading to Perth then I'll try and stock up to make sure the oldies have a feed.  Otherwise its just minimal in the freezer apart from the bare essentials, coupla feeds of squid, coupla feeds of cray, a packet of trout and everything else can be caught fresh.

I enjoy being out there and catching my target species as my main priority!

In saying that, its also nice to take home some rewards also especially locally!

When i'm up north its 95% C & R with a few reefys for the table!
