How many people fishing?

Sat, 2018-04-07 12:14

The 615 will get you to the same places the 670 will, the 670 will just give you more space when you get there.

For reference the 615 fishes 2 people comfortably, 3 is a bit of a squeeze. So if it's 3 or more on a regular basis go for the bigger rig.

670 will obviously cost more upfront, have slightly higher running costs (bigger motor) and be slightly heavier to to handle and tow around.

If you mostly fish solo go the 615.

was gunna say same sort of thing, also you gotta look at where and what style of fishing your going to do. if going long way off shore bigger would go better also how much you prepared to spend. as far as electronics. gps i couldnt say but sounder i would go the furuno fcv588. very user friendly , even i got it worked out and i dont knoe elecs much at all.

Its your retiremet, so will be the last boat you buy.......look at the biggest bastard you can afford, then go up one size.

670

i narrowed my own choice down to that a few mths ago. I went for the 670C, and I’m convinced it was the right choice. The extra room is great on the occasion you need it, and the bigger Hull does make it more comfortable. Still easy to self launch and retrieve with the bar catch system, no problems at all. Great boats and you are going to love it.

Big is better

I've had two 7m-ish boats now.

Id find it really hard to go back to a smaller one.

Feedback

Thanks for the feedback, all really good and appreciated

Yes I do like to go way offshore however my fishing Buddy (Wife) isn't that keen

She doesn't likes to go far past Rotto, although Albany Esperance and Exmouth will be regular trips

Looks like I am now leaning toward the 670 after your feedback and the fact that as the Grandies get older hopefully they will fish

there's better value for money than BC's

Sat, 2018-04-07 20:16

particularly if you want a good ride and comfort for your wife as a fishing partner.  Last week, i was in Mansfields workshop, looking at my work in progress. There was a brand new Reefrunner, with 150 merc 4 stroke, extended hardtop, Axiom 9RV, deckwash, 2 radios, bilge pump, bait table, Bennet tabs, VV4, polished rocket launcher, side clears, all your basic good stuff. It as going out the door for just under $90K. You won't get a 670 for that. You'll pay near that for a 615 new now...

Go for the 670

I own a BC 615 HT and I can honestly say three things.

1 - It is the most comfortable riding ally boat I have ever been on, but for the money you pay you would hope so!

2 - I wish I had the 670 as that little bit of extra room will make a huge difference when fishing more than 2 people.

3 - I regularly go offshore as far as 40 NM and I have never felt like the 615 was too small for that distance.

We purchased a 670C in December. fully optioned. this boat is amazing. I don't have a bad word to say its nimble enough to pull crab nets and big enough to chase fish out wide. love it

670C

I checked out both the 615C and the 670C, as you state Rohan the differnece in fishing platform between the two is quite a lot,

I have decided on the 670C now another question comes up, has anybody got the fly by wire and if so how do you find it?

gdupagne, what electrics are you running please mate? I am not sure currently leaning toward Faruno 588 with TM 260 Transducer and Lowrance Gen 3 as GPS, thoughts please.

no fly by wire

Thu, 2018-04-12 09:25

I went with the 200hp Yamaha, in line 4 stroke, without the fly by wire technology. With a single engine and standard fishing applications, I couldn't justify it....what I would say, is that the 200 Yamaha is fantastic - super fuel efficient and with plenty of power to get out of the hole. I'm sure the Suzuki's would be good too - but can't speak highly enough of the Yamaha. Would also suggest the upgrade to the 200hp suites this boat perfectly. I run the Lowrance Carbon 9 for both the sounder and GPS with a 1kw transducer - I know its not everyone's favorite, but it does the job nicely for us. The only extra that I would question if I purchased again is the flap on the ballast channel - I'm sure there are times to use it, but we haven't come across any just yet - for the money you pay for it, I'm not sure its really required.

Ad-ons

This is just me, but I will never again own a boat without a stressfree anchor winch, definitely get one! I also have the freshwater tank with pressure pump which is awesome for a quick rinse/shower after diving and for rinsing fishing gear when on long fishing trips. I have the Garmin GMI 10 gauges with a range of sensors which work really well, can recommend them. I also run the Lowrance GEN3 as a GPS / Sounder with a 1kW transducer which I have no problem with, but it would be better to run it as a GPS only with a Furuno Sounder!

Bigger

Thu, 2018-04-12 13:57

It's pretty rare to hear anyone say "I wish I had a smaller boat".  Unless your budget is such that you are extremely sensitive to cost, either to purchase or operate, then go as big as you can afford.

With regard to fly-by-wire controls, if I had a choice I would never go back to cable operated throttles.  Fly-by-wire makes it so much easier to control your engine speed, friction plate can be adjusted to get the feel you want, and the throttle response is linear - none of this business about the first 3/4 of throttle travel only giving minimal speed increase, then small fractions at the end of the travel having a large effect.

The feedback from all of you is so very much appreciated,

suzi q, I am only considering the flap as I will be beach launching down at Cheynes, your thoughts on this and have you done so?

Bar flap

Fri, 2018-04-13 07:11

I have the bar flap and use it all the time when it gets a bit choppy on the water. Makes a huge difference in how the boat handles in the chop, makes it a lot heavier and less bouncy. Being a HT it is too heavy for beach launching for me so cannot comment on that.
