Which is better Stella FA 20000 or Saltiga dogfight

Hi All I'm looking at buying a new reel and wanted to know your opinion on these 2 reels. Which is the best for bottom bashing/ trolling and what are the pro's and con's of the reels.
Thanks

i wouldn't use a spinning

i wouldn't use a spinning reel for bottom bashing and trolling. These two reels are more suited to jigging and popping etc. I would definatley go for a good quality overhead. Theres plenty of options out there (Tyrnos, penn international 16vsx, avet, etc..)

id say the stella 20k,its

id say the stella 20k,its low ratio which would be suited to your needs. The dogfight is a highspeed reel which makes it hard to bring up big sinkers etc, also puts alot of unwanted pressure for lightish trolling.

Probably a better comparison

Probably a better comparison on the Stella 20k is the Expedition, The Dogfight would go up against the Stella 10K.
From what you want and what i know so far, you'd want to get the Exp or the 10K for your needs. But yea bottom bashing and all its a bit of overkill imo, but heck its fun when you get a new toy! Get two separate reels one for each task at the same price as one of those or i'd be getting the Exp or Stella 10K. Right me if i'm wrong.

cheers

I agree with Blake, stick to

I agree with Blake, stick to spinning reels for popping/jigging and go for an overhead for bottom bouncing/trolling.

Jay I already got a couple

Wed, 2008-02-27 20:49

Jay I already got a couple of good o/h setups. Really looking for a bit of an allround setup but if a spinning setup it the go for chasing GTs then I will stick with that and just bring the o/h up for bottom bashing/ trolling

If you're going to end up

Wed, 2008-02-27 20:50

If you're going to end up chasing GT's get a high speed model either the 6500Dogfight, 6000GT, or Stella 10000FA.

For GT's you really need more than what the 8000 can handle.

Ok Jay so I really should be looking at getting some high speed setup. I'm starting to turn into a bit of a tackle junkie HA HA. Might get a couple of different setups then. What sort of rod are these reels best matched to

Idealy you'll want something

Wed, 2008-02-27 20:59

Idealy you'll want something around 7-8ft, or perhaps longer if using for land-based, and rated to about PE8 as a minumum.

There's plenty available but most come with a considerable price tag.

Had seen PE8 on the site a bit but had never known what it meant. I'm new to fishing for big fish. Had mainly been bream and inshore fishing in my tinnie but now that i'm getting a bigger boat I have realized I have a lot to learn about deep sea fishing

Stella 20k on a T curve jig

Wed, 2008-02-27 22:22

Stella 20k on a T curve jig 400 loaded with 80lb braid is a nice outfit that would cover bottom bashing and jigging, grab a spare spool and load it with 50lb and popper it on a kingmack.

Well that's what I do anyway Cool

 Cheers, Allan.

Stella 20K

Thu, 2008-02-28 10:41

I have a Stella 20K on a Jigwrex s526 5'2"
Perfect for HEAVY jigging and the reel will also be used for GT popping.
I'd not be trolling that reel under normal conditions and would only be using in game fishing with a switch-bait set-up and teazer.
As for bottom bouncing, it's bit over the top and heavy in my view.
