quick question - wots the go with diving on or near a pot? Reason being that we found a good spot last weekend though if we go out tommorow and there's a pot on our diving spot then I assume we still have every right to dive on this spot?
Which then leads me to ask - what if we're out diving and someone wants to check that pot, can they breach our 50m dive safety zone and check their pot?
no worries if theres pots on your ledge just dive in and dont interfere with the pots.
as far as him approaching i guess he'd have to sit and wait till u surface, rules say somethin along the lines of, u can enter within 50m of a flag if it prevents u from navigating a safe passage of your vessel but you must travel at the slowest possible safe speed with a good look out. so i guess for pots no he can't
if a vessle could come within your 50m no go zone but the first thing the boatie will think is you are checking his pot out. Divers seem to have that reputation don't they.
I'm a cray diver and have never pulled out one cray ever out of a pot. No doubt it happens but the reefs are full of crays so plenty to choose from and I enjoy the challenge!
Pots are often raided by "other rec boatys" i've found after many years of been in this industry but the divers are the easy blame if the pots are empty then followed by blaming the pro's!
Just try pulling your pots at tenish in the morning if they are set south west end of Garden Island. You can usualy tell cause the gps says it has been move 20m or so and just kackers in it. I've never had a problem with the pro's.

I tend to shove some crays
I tend to shove some crays into pots if I am over the limit, and am sure I have keepers. Rarely happens though.
