Pretty sure that trailer of yours will have ford bearings Matt. Best way is to get the numbers off the bearings to be sure.

if you have a spare wheel,
if you have a spare wheel, take that down with ya, the guys in the shop will be able to tell ya what you have. theres really only 3 different types.......... HQ, HG and Ford. unless your trailers really old in which case Valiant may be in the mix!!

just did my boat trailer
just did my boat trailer this morning. Easiest way is just to jack it up, take one hub off and take the whole thing into a trailer parts store. There's a good one up in Wangara- Martin's Trailer Spares I think. They'll sell you the lot, bearing kits, grease etc. Worth the effort to make sure you get the right parts. Funny you mention it as while I was changing mine I thought if I was taking pics it would make a good "how to". Definitely worth watching someone who has done it a few times first. Makes the whole process a lot easier.

Spare Hub
What a lot of people do now is to carry a fully set up hub and bearing filled with grease it's so much easier if your in the middle of nowhere to remove the hub and bearings and not have to be knocking out cones and repacking bearings in the dust and heat...you do need a disc hub too though if it's a tandem trailer, or just remove the break caliper altogether and use a normal one and use the break lock, you have no breaks but if you take it easy you should be ok, I lost a bolt out of my break caliper last week on the way home from exy the and wheel locked up so thats what I did.

I just got all motivated
Checked mine and found out they are holdens
grabbed a couple of sets for the exy trip
dont you just love it when you drop your bearing buddy in the gravel too??
spare hub is a bloody good idea, we did that for the long trip up to the nats last year, think i will actually do it again for my boat, put the spare on the hub and bolt it back on to the trailer wheel carrier as a complete unit

Wheel bearings
Have you fittedwheel bearings before? It is important to get the loading just right. If you over tighten them, they will soon over heat, cook the grease and sieze up. Too loose and you get unwanted movement and wear. A good way to check is to put the wheel back on after fitting the bearings and try to wobble it. If there is any movement, then the bearing is too loose. As long as there is no movement, spin the wheel and see that it revolves freely. When you are satisfied that it is OK take the trailer for a short run and then feel around the hub to check that there is no heat there. Always worth putting bearing buddies on if your wheels are going to go into the water. Don't give them too much pressure though as you can distort the inner seal.

I saw a TV advert for an exercise machine today and it was said that just three minutes a day of the machine would give me the body I dream of. How will three minutes a day on an exercise machine give me Miss World?
