What reel to use for my new Xzoga Takadum.
Submitted by daboogeyxen on Fri, 2010-09-10 03:01
Hey guys, I just got myself a Xzoga Takadum PE4 rating as a present and I was wondering what kinda reel should I use for it. Will just use it for some light jigging (maybe, hopefully sambos ~30kg) and general bottom bashing. Anyone have any good recomendations?

your ryobi safari should be more than adequate! it's actually a very nice size for your rod
and what would you consider heavy jigging?? sambos to 60kg? haha

I have the taka pe4 and have it matched to a daiwa..
Hyper certate 4000 with sunline 30lb. From the shallows out to the 100's where you still have plenty of line capacity to stall big sambos. I chose the hypers because they suposedly run the saltiga gearing?? (I really dont know if this is true. Its just what the reps say) and after years of abuse mine is running fine except for the bail roller bearing which i have changed once. Mines a jigging outfit, But i have used the reel for bottom baiting on a different rod. I did pay for the reel but after nearly 3 years im really happy with it. Its used on average every second week with plenty of arvo sessions inbetween and all holidays
Anyways

Twinpower SW or stella in
Twinpower SW or stella in the 5000 size. That would be the best.
I have a 5000 saragosa and its great. last weekend i snapped the drag clicker on a saombo. apart from that its great.
If you dont want to go crazy id suggest a saragosa 5000 loaded with PE4.

PE 4 rod....
They can handle their max line class easily, I won't be hesitant to push it to the limit. I'd go an Shimano 8000 size or a Daiwa 4500.
What budget have you got for the reel??
Jeremy, PE4 is a bit heavy for the 5000 Gosa. Max PE3 I reckon. You've been hanging with Dasho too long, did you catch his Tenai/baito ways as well??? lol

Honsu you might have stole my thunder
And I agree a 5000 Gosa would not like PE4 (I have 2). The 8000 easily as it is a beefed up reel. But then a similar stella is to the stars in comparison.

Honsu : dont really have a
Honsu : dont really have a budget per sae for the reel so I wouldnt mind bumping it up to a stella 4000SW or a similar twin power.
Is it advisable to buy the reels here or in say Singapore, cuz Singapore's price is about AUD100 cheaper but only offers a 1 year warranty.

With a Stella go the cheapest price
If you look after it you wont need the Warrantee.

Local vs o/s
If the difference is around $100 I'd buy it locally. My sw20k had to go back to shimano after it's first sambo season.
If the difference is around $300 (ie you pay RRP, which you shouldn't) then it maybe worth the risk, but I don't expect repairs to be cheap. I bought a few spare bearings for a yuemya handle and they were $16 each!

Honsu, I was originally
Honsu, I was originally after pe3 but i wasnt happy with the capacity. I got looked after on some pe4 that is like dental floss. i cant remember the brand though. I recall it wasnt cheap. Dasho wasnt involved in that one.
I saw his Tenai/Bait but i could never masterbait like that.

Cant beat a Stella
But a 10000 IMO a little heavy. If not the Saragosa 8000 would be neat and sporting. But then if you have the stash of cash go STELLA.
