Weed Weed Weed

I headed north to Moore River country this morning and arrived just before daybreak. The water was fantastic with a moderate westerly. Unfortunately there is a shit load of surface weed clumps all the way up the beach. Not those small annoying clumps, the big sods that make sure you braid is well loaded on the reel.
I mananged to snare a feed of Herring but it was really hard work and something you would only do if you droves as far as I did that early in the morning.
I wouldn't expect the weed to shift while winds are as they are so don't be suprised if you encounter the same from shore based over the next few days.
Cheers,

IMO a waste of time
From what I saw today and over the last week or so it would probably pay to give it a miss until we have had some easterlies. Sat and Sunday see the winds turning around so things could brighten up albeit there is quite a volume of weed around everywhere.

well just got back from my fav spot ...had a great herring session..some big herring lying about..there was a bit of weed around, but it wasnt too bad at all...just put a weight above my berley cage, got the bait down at the bottom and had a good run.....then a group of lads turned up for some tailors..wow they caught some huge 1s....the weed did get worse around 8pm so i gave up then...i had no star sinkers for casting out in my box...i was livid...tried to cast my mulies out and them lads were getting that extra 10 yards and it counted...
ah well i learn from my mistakes!

Hi all,Have just stumbled
Hi all,
Have just stumbled across this forum and this is my first post.
We've recently moved to WA (from SA), and love my beach fishing. Was planning a trip up to Loonies/Flatrock this weekend to chase Tailor (or whatever), but after reading this thread am wondering if I'm wasting my time if there's a lot of weed. Am I likely to be able to find some where clean, or should we try and find somewhere along the metro coast?
I've never been in to Loonies/Flatrock before, but have figured out where to go via the mud map and Google Earth. Any other tips or suggestions? Looking at Flatrock on Google Earth, I assume people just fish straight off the back of the rock - is this possible at high and low tide?
Looking forward to getting into some good WA fishing!
Cheers,
Drof

Welcome aboard drof
You will find some spots up that way that you can fish when it is badly weeded up. The best suggerstion is look for reefy areas and throw some poppers or metals.

Fished Flatrocks on Saturday
Fished Flatrocks on Saturday midday/early afternoon. Very little weed to start with but a bit more later in the day (just that annoying stuff that floats along the surface). No big swarms of weed though. Beach was fine to drive on.
A couple Tailor and some cold beers - great afternoon.

had a great fish yesterday
had a great fish yesterday evening..was thinking that it might be a bit too strong of a gust but ended up pulling 6 very good size tailor and loosing a few.which i love doing as it gives me more determination to go get them again..hahaha great fun.
need some help with poppers....i tried one last night for a while...didnt get any bites or anything..is there a certain way to fish them?...or is there a certain time to fish them regarding the wind etc

Poppers and white water work
Open beaches don't provide good popping. More suited to baits to catch the schools as they run through. It pays to study the habbits of the fish. They are always around somewhere that's why we chop and change our methods depending on circumstances.
