WARNING: Seller beware!!
I'm in the process of selling my boat and i posted it on Boatsonline.com.au and within a few hours i had a emails asking if the boat was for sale, so no worries i jumped quick as to get a good result.
His typing wasn't too crash hot but the name seemed foriegn so i accepted that, he asked about the condition of the boat, service history etc etc so i gave him the word and said i'm open to negotiation.
I said i can take photo's and he was all for it then he emailed back saying he wanted a pick up address for his shipping agent (freight company for us aussies...) i was suss already and told him to call me, his call dropped out/hung up saying he works offshore, suprise i work in the same industry and i told him that but he didn't acknowledge in the email just that he is happy to pay 35k straight up without negotiating one bit, even more suss.
He then asked for my paypal details (i didn't think you could send 35k on paypal, probably can't) i told him if he's to buy it his bank can send the cash to my bank, so i gave him my account details, he then said his bank cannot release the funds until i pay his "shipping agent" 950 bucks to secure transport (man i got quotes today for 3k from Perth to K-Town, 950 won't get it to darwin)
then i was sure i was been had and sure enough after speaking to a work colleugue he has seen the same on aviation sites, details below.
The bank said there is no threat to me since i didn't pay anything and he can't use my accounts but they are watching them all just in case. so Seller Beware
I think someone just tried to scam me.
It started a week ago when I received an email enquiring about my aircraft which is for sale on this site and the RAAus magazine. The magazine reference number was quoted.
He called himself Reinhold Brecht (from a German email, .de) and asked if the plane was still for sale.
I replied yes, and there was then an exchange of several emails re engine, general condition, avionics etc.
He then offered to pay my full asking price (no haggling) and advised that the sale would be conditional upon his LAME inspecting the aircraft.
OK so far.
He then advised he would send his LAME from England and wanted to deal via Paypal.
Next he advised he had sent the deposit to my Paypal account and it would be pending. All I had to do was send the 2500 Pounds to his LAME via Western Union. He has apparently included the LAME's payment with my deposit.
When I told him I didn't have that sort of money lying around, he then became insistent that it happen now, and that I should perhaps borrow it as I would have it returned within 24 hours.
At this point I sent him a rude email suggesting that the ruse was up, and that I wasn't sending my money anywhere.
Beware of this. He is good, and appears to know his aircraft speak.
I will also report this to RAAus.
If something appears to be too good to be true, then it probably is.
This was an email from one of the guys on the flying forum

i got the same email last week. Same crap about working offshore and shipping the stuff overseas and wanting me to disclose my paypal details.
Knew it was b$%^&t straight away. sent an email back to the address telling them I knew it was a scam and havent heard anything else.
you know its crap when someone starts talking about paying the asking price and having it shipped all in one email. Makes you wonder how many people actually fall for it.

My friends were selling a car
My friends were selling a car and the same happened to them. 2 replies on add on gumtree and 2 in quokka. They must have a whole call/admin centre when they are so active. And we are talking about $3k car. Who would bother bringing it to NZ or even Malaysia? Dam those scammers. I bet someone who just doesn’t know about this will still fall for it.

Only use Western Union if it is a close relative !
On EBAY or buying from the net, the scammer tries the 'Paypal' then goes for the Western Union !

getting the bottom line final answer from a bunch of blokes that use false names and put smiley faces at the end of paragraphs is not the best place in the world to get the information you seek.

Overpayment is how they catch most folks, anything that is" i paid you to much send me back the difference "is a scam, sometimes the moneys in your bank account depending on how they pay you,,but that moneys sitting there to be cleared and it does not in the end,,in the mean time you sent back ASAP money for them,,your own personal money,

I have a friend who got scammed big time.
He was on a dating website, where he was hooking up with "hot blonde chick". We told him she looked to good to be true, but he's a bit thick. Anyway, she was from USA and needed a bit of cash to fly over and see him.
$2400 later, she missed her flight and needed another $700.
We told him to give up, she is probably a fat dirty old man anyway.
All you lonely blokes out there..... dont trust dating websites!!
