Want to improve your casting distances and accuracy?
Can you cast 100 metres? You can do it easily with help from us. We had a junior who set casting records of 100 metres for 112 gram, and 97 metres for 56 gram when he was only 12. And he was not big for his age. Some adults regularly cast over 150 metres.
People who would like to see how it is possible to cast such long distances, how to cast accurately, and get some tips and tutition can come to the Surf Casting and Angling Club's dry casting day on Sunday 7 March.
Where:- Yokine Reserve, Wordsworth Avenue, Yokine. Competition starts at 8:30am, but club members are there from around 7:30am onwards for setup and practice.

Dry Casting is long distance casting and accuracy casting on a grassed area, where the distances and the accuracy can be measured.
We've all met the difficult situations where the water is rough, the wind is strong in your face or coming from one side, you need to land the sinker in a sand hole near reefs, cast a bait in front of a school of fish, avoid tangling with the person next to you, the person next to you is casting a bit further and catching all the fish, and so on. With the right gear and skills, you can fish almost anywhere and in almost any conditions.
You don't need any special gear to start dry casting. Many people use their regular fishing gear, particularly for the accuracy casting.
We can show you how to get the best out of your own fishing gear if you would like to bring it along. We can give advice on different rods and reels and show how these can go together, and also let you try out casting with different rod and reel combinations to find one that suits your fishing needs and your size and physical strength. This is important for the ladies and juniors, and those of us who aren't as young as we used to be, or for people who are struggling to cast the distances they want to.
Our visitors always get a lot of useful and practical tips, and often add ten to thirty metres to their casts on the first day - and, no, we don't catch many fish at drycasting, but those skills certainly help when we go fishing.
After the competition and the lessons for the visitors, we get together over a sausage sizzle and soft drinks, and talk about anything to do with fishing and casting.

I can 2nd wot Terry has
I can 2nd wot Terry has posted.....I was a newb and couldnt cast far enough, esp on those days into howling sou-westers..........After some tuition from a number of members im hitting 100 plus meters on grass and have belted out 200gram raiders 130 to 150 mtrs at kalbarri hunting mack n tuna.
A bonus if u decide to become a memebr is the club is nearly self sufficient. Items such as blanks, custom rods, reel servicing lures and a number of other goodies are all done 'in house' by members and all work is 1st class at reasonable prices. Once membership is adopted these are some of the benefits gained....
Ive had custom rods built and is all 1st class work.....1st sunday of each month at above address.......See you there and is family friendly

I agree
Always loved drycasting in my younger days, great fun and a good way to get your technique right. When I was 14/15 I could hit 150m with a 4oz and my best at accuracy was 160 out of 200. Even now mates spin out at how far I can cast compared to them.
Always been meaning to get back into it. Terry do they still use the small Alveys or is everyone using Overheads??

Joe and HuggyB.
Next casting day after the one on 7 March is Sunday 11 April 2010. Note it's NOT the first Sunday of the month - that's Easter.
crewsy72.
Reels used for distance casting are mainly threadline, with some Sea Martins and a 6 inch Alvey, not the very small 4-5 inch Alveys.
For accuracy casting, the whole range is used including some overheads.
