Vacum sealers

Hi all, I am contemplating purchasing a vacum sealer for my fish fillets.

Is it a case of "pay for what you get"?

I see some good cheapies on ebay with brands like Maxcon featuring alot.

Any feedback from owners would be appreciated.

Regards

Chris

Personally I think it is a case of what you pay is what you get, I bought the sunbeam VS.. somthing something on special a while ago now & it works great. I use mine regularly to freeze fillets, meat etc hence why I bought a well known brand. Maybe other members can shed more light on the subject but if you are going to use it alot then I would invest more money into it

Probably meant Maxon.

Had one that worked a charm for a year or so, then one fine day it wouldn't auto seal anymore.  Still works, but I now have to hit the seal button for it to seal.  Just keep the vacuum going till the bag stops moving, the hit the seal button. For the price, I can't complain but if i were to do it again, I would buy a better unit.

I've used the Sunbeam for a few years and it does the job. Picked up a new one at a swapmeet for $20 a few months ago, which was handy.

Sunbeam, just opened a pack of leg ham I vac sealed and froze just after Xmas, still nice and moist.

But remember if you VS cooked crabs wrap them up first in grease proof paper or baking paper before VS them other wise pointy bits will pierce bag, learnt that from experience hahahaha

ezivac

I have the easy vac and it is bloody handy.

Just got one for myself but we have been using an easy vac down on the farm for when we knock off a cow/pig/sheep, as well as fish and it is bloody quality and as you can imagine doing 3 sheep at a time it gets a good work out and i can not complain.

I have seen the cheap ones at a mates place before it didn't even last 1 sheep!

You get what you pay for and either sunbeam or the ezivac are the go.

Cheers

Sunbeam sealers

Sat, 2011-05-07 19:21

Seems like the Sunbeam vacs are the popular ones.

I know some take the 20cm and some take the 28cm bags.  I guess its the length which determines storage of fillets and not as much the width.

Do you have to use genuine Sunbeam bags with the Sunbeam machines or are there generic bags cheaper from other outlets like Ebay?

Kind regards

Chris

Hey Chris, as far as I know

Sat, 2011-05-07 20:45

Hey Chris, as far as I know they don't need the sunbeam bags. A mate of ours purchases his wholesale south freo way for his & saves a bucket load, will be doing the same when I run out of the two rolls left

We have a fresh shield which

Sat, 2011-05-07 19:49

We have a fresh shield which works ok and seals quickly, but the Vacuum process takes a while. Mates of ours had a Sunbeam on a fishing trip and it is much better as his had a troff almost where the mouth of the bag was fed into, so all the juices that come out of the fresh fish go into there and can be cleaned out. Ours is just flat and has a little vac outlet to the side, which means you have to be careful as sometimes if there is water or whatever on the filets it can be sucked out, ruin the sealing job and if your unlucky actually sucked into the vacuum. The sunbeam vacuum is much more powerful but the sealing process takes a bit longer, overall I think the Sunbeam is the better unit.

Our mates were just using generic bags that they had got from where ever and they worked perfectly.

We have a foodsaver - done ok for now, but on its last legs.  Will end up getting one of these next time.

Just remember to remove as much of the liquid as possible, can be difficult to seal if there is liquid between the layers during heat sealing.

shamwow

Sun, 2011-05-08 10:19

we finally found a use for the "shamwow", after filleting our fish, with a carton, we put the fish on shamwows and cover them with more shamwows, then pat them so they actually work, takes most moisture out and we find sealing much better, thanks shamwow !!!! lol

Evapac

Sun, 2011-05-08 11:24

Hi all and Tandawg

The unit we stock is called the Evapac. I stock it because i have tested it for nearly three years. Many other machines have certain problems that cause them to break down and not work anymore. Many machines need a certain time to cool down between each use. Some do dot have any tray to trap excess moisture. Some machines even have a fine print that says not to use moist products.

The Evapac will keep going and going, no need for cooling down. The strength of the seal and suck is first class. It will not engage the element to seal if there is too much moisture. a very good technical feature which saves the life of the machine.

The Evapac comes with a two year warranty. I agree with Matthew, master butchers sell a good one and yes, you do get what you pay for.

The Evapac is a quality machine that gets the job done, is well made and fully tested.

It comes with quality bags and jar attachments.

Feel free to PM me Tandawg for more info and you can also go to xtremeproducts.com.au to view our product. Also feel free on ringing me on 0403978583.

I will never spend less than $200.00 on a vac seal again. Before the Evapac, my mates and i have been through 6 different machines, all of which broke down in the first few months of buying them.

Regards

Dave
