What kind of camera are you
What kind of camera are you taking? I use an olympus waterproof job. My advice is make sure there are no bubbles trapped over the lense, and if you have flash, use it.

If just snorkelling Russ,
If just snorkelling Russ, have the sun behind you to help highlight the subject with natural light. The more distant a subject the more back scatter (flash highlighting particles in the water) you will get when using a flash, so natural light is better. If the water is gin clear though, then flash away!
If diving down to a subject (darker water) then yes use a flash (ie 1-2 foot away from subject). Assume you would have a digital cam, so therefore take a few shots and check results, then take some more.
Try not to chase fish around - you'll end up with plenty of tail shots - you are a big predator. Let fish get comfortable with your presence.
I've only very owned a film camera for u/w. The u/w shots from the river I put up on another thread were taken with a borrowed camera from a mate - my first use of an u/w digi system - very easy to use.
Cheers Pete

I use an Canon Ixus 75 with a canon underwater housing good to 60 metres. On the right setting ( Underwater setting ) it takes great shots. You just point and shot. The underwater case and camera are both very simple to use and very reliable. Highly recommend for a budget underwater setup

is the camera I use, it's the new model of the 770 Olympus and is great.
Takes good pictures and is pretty tough.
Not going to post any pics tho, just in case too many blowies were on my drop net, or maybe the bait was tied on wrong, just doesnt feel right.

I just bought a Olympus 850
I just bought a Olympus 850 sw. 8mp and waterproof to 3m.
Good pics in daylight. Will make a good fishing camera. Paid $330 at Harvey Norman.
Low light shots are not as good as some others I have seen, but none of those are waterproof.
Got a 2gb card on Ebay and it works a charm.
Hasn't been on the boat yet though, but hopefully soon.

Great
you wont be dissapointed I reckon, most of my pics lately have been taken with this camera.
Havnt used it underwater a lot yet but it's been dropped a few times and drowned, it still works great, I chose it more for a yak fishing camera because I've drowned two others now.
Just need a water proof phone now.....LOL

I got the 770 for the boat. Will have it with me tomorrow so you can have a look. Makes things so much better when you dont have to worry if the camera gets wet.

Funny bunch you's are, I was just being a sarcastic prick as usual, my skin is a lot thicker than most.
I'm sure you'll all be seeing a lot more pics from me in the future
Al.
edit: lost one phone and camera that was in a dry bag, the dry bag popped in a surf roll over back east, just another joy of yak fishing lol.

here.
A few examples of pics from the M1030SW from my trip to Kalbarri, cant find the under water shots from Mandurah amongst the 5000 other pics I have.
These were taken in the stock standard auto focus mode, I reckon you can get a lot better pics if you knew how to use the cameras features better than myself.
Cheers, Al.

It would be nice if someone
It would be nice if someone bothered to put a polarising filter on these cameras sometime. You have to go to a dslr or close to get the addition of filters.
