Yeah I like 2.5m max, but on 3m it's still safe if you follow the leads. You've just got to be careful of the reef further out from the South Cardinal marker, as it gets deeper then comes right up to 4m in places furth north. But right on the leads it only comes up to 8m at the shallowest.
Dude have fished out from there for years. Ive been out when its breaking around the marina heads, LOL.
Just make sure if you are heading out on the leads when you get to the last one whatch the swells as is can sneek up on ya, what size boat you got i can give you some good spots, as i dont fish down there now.
The bank...
not bad boat surfing on the way back in when the swell is up, with my experience on big swells just watch the sets and then make a run for it and you will be fine
You lot make it sound so easy .I have crossed the banks and fish out off here all my life,i have seen it break where it shouldnt break.3m isn't to bad ,if you have a low tide you need to watch the shallow spots on the three mile as they will be going off. also the leads don't trust them ,takes you right through the cats eyes, better staying to the north of the north cardinal marker and when you reach the three mile pick a channel between the breaks ,good luck, keep safe.log on to the local air sea rescue, channel 91.
Plenty of good thoughts, yes the high swell isn't my fav for safety but more so on high swell i don't do too well on the fish. Often the water is dirty and the fish higher off the bottom in general!
Play it safe as mentioned, the markers or northern break....just watch the silent wave on higher swell, it creeps up quickly!
I go out on 2.2m swell and less preferably but will push it to 2.5m!
Went out of Tworocks on Wednesday and the Dhufish were loving my fav jig the Zest 120.
I got 4 Dhufish in 5 drifts, all well above legal size and the biggest went about 10kg plus (released that fish and another)
