Stupidity at its best
It was decided we could bash out to Rotto and grab the cray pots after work.... almost the most insane thing Ive ever done!
So down at freo sailing club we met and went out...
By the way we went out in a centre console.........
I can now say i have a new appreciation for the waters around rotto.
60km winds are NOT fun.... Airborne off more waves than i count...drank about 40,000 litres of salt water...
Cant say Ive been in chop that bad before... with the waves standing upright near rotto atleast 3 metres....massive!!!
After Scano piked on me on 1 trip, and i can atleast say he has hardened up a little now.
Lucky we were in a big boat with plenty of grunt....or we would not have bothered getting the pots!! managed to travel at 23 knots over and 23 knots back.
and only 8 crays in the 2 pots we pulled......and had been in for 5 days.

Was good fun now sitting back on the couch.... but at the time not as much fun.
Good to see what a blackwatch can do in rough water..
But i must admit, i didnt expect the water to be that rough...even with the wind blowing hard.

Nothing like a good
scare to tighten up those aging clacker muscles mate - mine were quivering for weeks after a "mate" took me out to the Coral Lumps of the capes - flat as glass at the Quindalup boat ramp but degenerated so badly on the way out we honestly expected to get rolled trying to turn around and hightail it home. Frightening when you get the weather wrong.

The body of water we have our pots in is a renound surfing location around rotto, because of the way the waves stand upright through there. Generally more with swell, so we would not have been out there is there was swell around.
Actually muscles are not too bad this morning, supprisingly :)
Not too sure about Scano tho..... few times i looked back at him and he was holding on pretty tight!!!
Even now i dont think there was any waves that would have hurt us...ie: rolled us, eventho they were breaking. Dont think there was enough power to turn a 3.5t boat.

Been there and done that....The missus in her wisdom said she would fill in for me when a mate pulled out. "yeh yeh I can drive the boat while you pull them up" Well same weather conditions and a huge swell running at the West end..we banged our way over and as soon as we passed straglers and the full brunt hit us I saw her face drop.....The nearer we got to Rotto the more panic set in.....But being me I pushed on, we where in site of my pots ......white water all around I turned to the missus.....crying and calling me every name under the sun. No option but to turn back did'nt get to pull pots and got drenched. .......She no longer wants to come pull the pots and only gets on the boat on mirror days.

you may have viewed it differently if you had broke down and relied on some poor sod to go and rescue you.

Even I have had some trips
Even I have had some trips where the nose of the boat has disappeared under water and rolled up onto the windscreen so hard I thought it would cave in.But 30 years of boating and 8 boats later..just another day.
