starlo 9ft shorespin

thinking about buying a new spinning rod soon for casting lures between 1 and 2 oz, mainly off the beaches chasing tailor/salmon in season... would anyone who owns the shimano shorespin be able to help by telling me how it handles the heavier lures... 40 gram metal slices, 2oz richter plugs, halco 135 roosta's!

thanks

I think the max casting weight is 45g, so not sure how 2oz plugs will go. Shimano do the nexave southern spin as well, which is pretty much the shorespin beefed up. You can really belt out 60g lures no problems on the nexave (though it doesnt have any markings on the rod).

one of my mates has one. I've used it and I think there a great rod for the price. He has it matched to a Stradic 4000 runniing 14lb fireline.

It's main use is for chucking lures for Salmon and Tailor. His main lures are a 2oz Richter plugs and 65g Raiders.

You won't have any issues, i have the 9 footer paired with a 8000 Stradic and ping 2 to 3 oz slices/poppers for miles. Plan on using that setup next year during the salmon run.

Awesome rod for lure casting, and a bargain at $99.

In saying though if i was buying now I would seriously look at the 9ft Shimano Jewel, a bit more pricey at around $150, but a great rod.

Im a big fan of the shorespin range I have 5 shorespins, 2 11foot H, 2 9foot M (to 45g i think), and 1 9" light (15g-35g).

I reckon they are a solid rod at a good price, if off a beach mainly then i would go the 11Heavy they belt a 60g slice right out there, The 9ft M is the way to go if doing some rock hoping aswell, perfect for salmon/tailor although ill be honest and say its a bit light for mackrel spinning up north.

for your application I deff look at a shorespin.

If your chasing a spinning rod thats about 9ft, cheap and can handle bigger fish I would seriously look at the rovex 10-15kg 9ft
