Just a couple of questions on the tasty squid.

If they are alive and in
If they are alive and in water, they don't run out of ink.
A bed of ice works well to keep they fresh.

I chuck them in a cooler
I chuck them in a cooler bag, with seawater and a bit of ice. You usually get back and its black water, but doesnt really matter. Otherwise, I ink them on the rocks, chuck into a bucket and after 10+ min (or at end of session), then in the iced water. rarely get the main bag inked then. You can also rip off the heads, dunk in a bucket, wash a little, then chuck into iced water (dead squids cant make more ink :p). You can use the heads then and there for bait too.

from the boat
leave them in the catch net, then grab them and squeeze hard between the head and the mantle (the main "body" of the squid). Throw them into an esky of ice and seawater and close the lid. The inside of your esky will be inked (but not all the time), but you and your boat will stay clean!
Also and easy way to clean them is to use a scaler bag - best thing ever for cleaning squid.rip the heads and quill out, throw all the tubes in the bag and skip them behind your boat in the wake on the way back in for about a minute - hey presto clean tubes.

No water
Even if their dead and they are submerged in water they will still ink, i always have two small square laundry buckets on board, i stick them in a bucket and put the bucket in the slurry in the ice box, keeps em just as cold and no thick black slurry thru the rest of your catch

Igrab the tube while they r in the water then grab the head and quickly twist there head off i throw the head in one bucket which i freeze for deep sea or snapper bait and the tube goes in a ice slurry doesnt matter if the water inks up as u have 2 skin them anyway. Just make sure u dont clean them in inkie water

Squeeze behind the head
Squeeze behind the head until they go white and limp on bringing them into the boat and chuck in a bucket with some sea water. When I'm done I pull up into the shallows (waist deep), jump out and head and clean in the water to save a mess. Throw the feather away, chuck wings and heads in a bag for bait and tow the tubes in a scaling bag for easy, ink and skin free tubes.

it doesn't hurt
using burley - I'm not convinced its a great attractant, but it certainly is not a deterrent.
I hang a sock full of pollet/fish oil mix over the side when I'm drifting in the boat.
