The Sol Advantage...

I've been looking at the Sol's recently and would have bought one on the weekend if I could find somewhere that wasn't sold out of them...
But I saw a Td Advantage and started wondering the difference between them.
Has anyone out there used the Sol and the advantage and could offer some advice on them. Or even a similarly priced reel that would match them.
What about a stradic. Are they in the same class or does the extra weight make them not as competetive as the sol or advantage.
Is a luvias in the same category.
Campbell's have the 3000 luvias for 289 which is what the 2500 Sol's are worth.
I was originally looking for a 2500 but at this price the luvias might have got the nod even if it is a bigger size.

Stradic for me

Mon, 2008-01-21 15:35

I looked at both Lukas, and I think the new Stradic Fi model comes in slightly ahead of the Sol and the advantage. The new Stradic's have a fair bit of the Stella technology but at a fraction of the price. You could pick up a new Stradic for around the prices you are looking at. PM me if you want some further info, All the best Colin Hay

I got a 2500 Luvias, love

Mon, 2008-01-21 15:52

I got a 2500 Luvias, love it. Very smooth and with 7kg drag i'm not complaining, you can try and get the 2500R which has the same spool capacity as the 2500 but with a slightly bigger body and more power of a 3000. If you look at campbells look at the 2500 not the 3000 you'll get a clearer picture of what you want, for some reason they got an old image of the 3000 there. Actually looking at it now it might be an older model?
If you can get a luvias for $289 thats a good price.
Haven't had a chance to use a Sol but if you PM Rickets and ask him he might be able to tell you, coz he was playing around with my luvias for a little bit the other day. Haven't heard a single complaint about the Sol nor the Stradic either but i'm a daiwa man.

I think the advantage range is

Mon, 2008-01-21 15:59

I think the advantage range is this years version of the Daiwa Caldia Kix. Looks to be the same reel and has the same stats, think there has just been a name change but could be wrong.

info!

Mon, 2008-01-21 17:23

Hi Lukas,

The 3000 luvias for $289 at Campbells is the discontinued model you'll find.

I've got the SOL 3000 and my SOL 2000 & 2500 and New model Luvias are on backorder!

The advantage is under the SOL as it has less bearings (2 i think) but Daiwa make Adavantage rods to suit the reels just like the SOL....good marketing strategy!

PM me if you need anymore info!

Yeah Sol for me as well....3

Mon, 2008-01-21 20:39

Yeah Sol for me as well....3 of them in fact.

I also have the Airity, which is the top of range version of the Luvias you mentioned there. They're a discontinued model as Ryan pointed out. I wouldnt buy a discontinued reel knowing the parts could be hard to get hold of, worse....cant get BLING parts for it anymore.

Go the Sol, atleast it comes with BLING to start with.

The NEW FI Stradic are not bad reels as well but being a new reel and not much feedback from users I rather let somebody else work out the kinks first.

play!

Tue, 2008-01-22 09:45

Shimano Twinpowers are a nice reel but too much play in the handle for me, that's why i didn't buy one for myself. I went to Stella's instead but Daiwa's mid price reels still have all the high end quality's!

I'm definitely leaning

Tue, 2008-01-22 13:56

I'm definitely leaning towards the sol at this moment. Haven't heard one bad report about them and there are certainly a few around.
Now all I need to do is order it.

You can't lose mate

That is a great reel, plenty of grunt and they just look like a quality reel.
Better get your order in quick because now that you have made up your mind you will be really wanting to get your hands on it.
All the best Colin Hay

Hey Ryan When you say "play"

Tue, 2008-01-22 17:43

Hey Ryan

When you say "play" in the reel you mean mean something to do with the anti-reverse or movement sideways?

Just movements sideways

Tue, 2008-01-22 19:41

Just movements sideways because its not shimmed with enough washers. $400+ reel should not need fixing to make it better.

The Sol are awesome. I had mine for over 4yrs now and it just had a anti reverse bearing changed coz I used it heavily and very often too.

I will. I live down south in nannup and it's easier to order it and get it sent here than drive up and get it from somewhere.
