Soft Plastics Day off the Cape
Headed out for a fish today off Cape Nat. Decided to give the SPs a go today as the conditions where great and I had a new SP combo that I had not use as yet.
After a bit of sounding a few fish where located and down went the SPs. Wasn't too long before Clint was on.

Not long after a good fight on the light gear Clint landed the first dhuy of the day.

After a couple of more drifts and not much luck we moved on to another spot. As approaching the ground we came across some more fish on the sounder.
Down went the SPs and Clint was on again. Another good fight resulted in another dhuy.

With our dhuy limit reached and it still being early we decieded to sound around for some more ground. I also was to still pretty keen to boat my first fish on a SP.
Wasn't too long before we came across some good ground with a few fish showing on the sounder.
Down went the SPs again and after a couple of drifts you wouldn't believe it but Clint was on again. This fish went hard and again Clint had another dhuy boat side which was the biggest of the day.
This fish was left in the water, dehooked and sent back down within minutes of being landed for a successful release.

Decided to go over where Harro was fishing and see what he was up to. On our way we came accross some more good ground with fish on it.
Down went the SPs again and this time it was my turn. Not a dhuy but a nice BB and my first fish caught on a SP.

Decided to give it one more drift as I was keen to catch my first dhuy on the SPs.
Well it wasn't too long before Clint was on again. Another solid dhuy was brought up and quickly released.
As you could image I was a little bit cut at this stage with Clint having caught 4 dhuys on SPs to my one BB.
With sea breeze on its way in it was time to head home. Guess I'll have to wait to the next trip before I get my first dhuy on a SP.

Nice work with the McArthy 10"! I'd love to put them up on the McArthy Baits Gallery, mind sending me a few higher res pics?
Brendan, as skipper you get a claim to all fish, as you put that pesky Clint onto them ;)

Good to hear you had fun with them and you got onto some great fish too. I droped a McArthy 11" today down in 300m, but it was a very slow day today out there.
Ta for the pics!

Nice one Brendan, bit of bad
Nice one Brendan, bit of bad luck on the 4-0 score card but it's better to see fish in the boat than none at all.
You heading north this year again?

Hope to be up there for the FW comp but work is a little crazy at the moment as we have just started work on a big contract that will take a while to get sorted.

those pics turned out a
those pics turned out a treat Brendan .. and nice to meet a few more of the southern fishwrecked crew :)
Matt i changed the weights a bit today .. it was a bit windy in the morning so i started with a 8oz then as the wind dropped i went to a 4oz and finished the day on a 2oz .. depth was about 45m ..
i found the 4oz to be the best as it teamed up with my PE2 gear a treat .. and the 10" sp's are great .. but the last 2 (and bigger dhu's) came from the 2oz and a smaller SP .. about 7" i think .. but it was hard to hold bottom and tighten up on bites with the lighter jig head ..
Bloody great day out there tho .. thanks to Brendan for taking me out and allowing a NO BAIT day :)
soooo much easier to clean the boat with no dried on bait and crap sticking to everything

Dhues on SPs, top effort. Some days they don't even seem to care what the colours are either by the look of it.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

That reel and rod in the pic is my light metal jig combo (saltiga game and jig force 120g)
For the soft plastics I was using a certate 3000 and a hearty rise sylphy 20g - 80g

And here I was thinking Clint
And here I was thinking Clint was a liar, he seems to always be the one with the Dhu's, been on a boat with him one or two too many times with Clint hauling the dhuies (on his mini rod and reel) in and everyone else sitting there thinking they are doing something wrong.
Think he must pay someone to sit down there on scuba and hook them up for him...:P Saying that I currently have a shopping list for Mcarthy sp's and some big TT's...
