Smoker suggestions
Submitted by Sea goat on Tue, 2024-05-07 09:20
Hi guys. I'm hoping to get a decent smoker mainly for fish. Have tried some of the kerosene ones before, but always found they left a funny taste.
mainly will be used for skippy, salmon, etc.
any suggestions on a good unit?
cheers!

Metho ..
I've had my tin metho one for years .
works a treat no funny taste . And it's
a little larger than the other tin ones
I've seen so you can load it up. Just
gotta leave small gaps so that smoke
can really pass thru and cook it .
cheers pirate

I use my little camp gas
I use my little camp gas cooker with a steel plate over the flame and the smoker box on top. Works great and you can control the heat/smoke pretty good.
I heard years ago that the pellet smokers don't give it the full on smokey flavour but I don't know first hand

Pellet Smoker
Pellet smokers work very well.
Had my Treager for a few years now.
People hate on them because they are so easy to use.
Just fill up the hopper, set the temp and let it work.
I've done plenty of trout on it.
set it on low temp, 60-80 deg and come back in 90 min.
Perfect.
But they are expensive to buy.

Brine ..
Brine your fish before hand is a big
thing .. I normally do a bowl water
brown sugar and sea salt . Let it sit
a hour .. grab fish with tongs quick flick
To get moisture off . Then into smoker.
don't forget too spray your rack with
cookin oil so she doesn't stick too the
rack .. cheers pirate..
