Shopping, International or home?

I am looking for Info on shopping for my Furuno 585/1kw transducer,
best price at the Perth boat show was $2400, Looking at sites in the US can pick up for $1500.
Has any one done this that can help? Or do you know any local merchants that can do a good deal for me??

Thats a good price Justin for local, yeh you can save $$ buying O/S but i've always been a "support local" person ....each to their own. The benefit if you did buy local is warranty back up and yes Furuno gets returns!

good luck
on getting that with a 1kw transducer for that price from OS. I looked around and could not get anywhere near that. That was the price with a 600kw tranny and then you need a bracket on top of the 1kw transducer

The way the Aussie dollar is you may not get that good a deal overseas at the moment and as Ryan said A) you support the local industry which means in return they can provide you better deals and B) you get the service.

The aussie dollar has certainly had the guts pulled out of it over the last coupla weeks, certainly not as good rates! I am currently undergoing the same conundrum with buying a camera O/S vs local and the warranty factor, I'm starting to think for the extra $300 it is worth that piece of mind.

Adam, I bought a Canon DSLR
Adam, I bought a Canon DSLR from the US when the $ was at 95c, it pretty much worked out to be $100 or so cheaper, not sure if it was worth the hassle or extra stress though. Remember customs will wack a charge on it if its over $1000, along with shipping and international warranty it all added up.

IIRC anything that comes in
IIRC anything that comes in via post to a limit of $800 gets through scot-free, but over that you will cop GST. Anything at all via courier will get a $50 clearing fee, and then GST on top if its over a lower limit than post.

Have bought lots of gear via intnl shipping...boats, sounders, motors etc. With the dollar how it is at the moment, just buy local. Honestly, the effort far outweighs the cost.

I'm all for supporting local
I'm all for supporting local if you get the support, however i am also a believer in value for money. There are some very reputable sellers over seas that i trust also, have never let me down. All i am saying is also consider your own wallet, if the seller is a reputable one, even with the weakening Australian dollar there are still some bargains out there, both overseas and in Australia.

Wrassemaster, if you go local keep the guys honest and do your home work. Pick the items you want then get on the phone and get busy, ring as many suppliers as possible and make them earn the sale. Its your money, so keep as much of it as you can in your pocket. If they want the sale they will move there price to win it.
