Sharks are the garbage bins of the sea any baits that are oily mullet, pike salmon, use a bit of tuna oil on your bait and send out via a balloon to keep it away from the rays.and a bit of wire trace also helps
i hooked into a ray today that woulda gone 30kg and im feeling the effects of it now on my back. lets just say now it has a snell of 9/0 suicide hooks for a lip ring, and a 4 ounce snapper lead for a necklace. im only 14 but my back feels like it belongs to an 80yr old at the moment

to keep off the rays, try keep your bait off the bottom.
if your using a 3 way swivel, i have previously used a little bit of cork on thesinker leader up near the swivel to help keep the bait off the ocean floor.
Other option is to put a sliding float on your sinker leader.
As fun as it might be to catch rays, how often do you get your tackle back? how often do the rays get run down and warn out from a long fight.
i use a snelled set of variuos sizes of hooks with maybe half a meter of line. then i put a swivel on free running then tie the rig to the main swivel. i then tie a length of about half a meter to the free running swivel and then tie on my sinker to there, so the siker is running. i havnt tried cork but i might next time because im tired of losing my gear on rays that i cant stop with an alvey that dosnt have any drag

tuna, mullet and salmon
thats what they eat and pretty much a staple of their diet, so it makes sense to utilise it as bait. plus they are good oily fish.
If you can sneak it past the keeper, a baby seal would also work wonders on the troll.
