A Session with Uncle Stu
Stu invited me to join him for a weekend away at his humble retreat in the hope that it would be third time lucky to catch an elusive Salmon. Time was on my side so I gratefully accepted. Stu had also invited a young Irish fella who he has a work association with. The fella is named Steve and I will refer to him as "Irish" from here on in.
Stu and Irish picked me up from work at 4PM Friday. I parked my car up in the warehouse and we were off! Much to the disatisfaction of Stu we had the tops off the Crownies before he even got out of the car park at my place of work.
An nice trip down. A few beers by the fire and it was time for bed. While we were chatting I nominated 7am as my first Salmon in the morning.
We rose early for usual Stu full breakfast and then it was off for the long trek to Windy Harbour. When we arrived the conditions were perfect with a moderate swell and offshore breeze. I almost wanted to go surfing. After studying the beach we decided to walk some 500 meters to a hole that showed some promise. It took me a while to recover from the walk and set up my two rods. My 12 footer with Mullies and my 9 foot graphite for lures.
It was 7:08am when my first bait went in the water and at 7:10am I had my first strike!!!! Dancing fish! WOW everyone was excited. A nice Salmon was landed as per photo.
An hour later I hooked another beauty! Stu being Stu whispered to me that Irish had never caught a decent fish so I gladly offered my rod to him to finish off the landing process. Well done Irish! Photos show results.
Stu then got some action and landed a nice Salmon. Irish then did the real thing and hooked and landed a fish of his own. I was on again also.
All in all, 5 fish landed, one decided to leave me before I could grab it, and 1 or 2 were released. Nice session!
Back to the shack and a few too many beers. I decided, after much pushing from Stu, to cook a Salmon pie. See pictures. The pie turned out great other than one small issue. The fillets had some sand in them................ Pie tasted great but there was a lot of grinding happening. Anyway, the Kookaburras loved it the next morning.
Speaking of the next morning, it was too far to the beach so we headed out to some of Stus favourite river spots. While the boys played I tossed a few lures in the creek and guess what? Redffin were around. It was some fun.
We then went back and did all the chores through lack of female help and headed back to Perth.
Stu; thanks mate and Irish; thanks also.
I promissed Stu a weekend at S-bends as a payment for such a fine weekend.
I hope you enjoy the pics and sorry it took a while to polish up this report.

Yes, Salmon alright
Plenty of them this trip. Great conditions and great company. Will edit the post tomorrow when I have my wits about me. I haven't quite mastered the art of posting comments in between pics yet.

Comparable
Salmon are heavy bodied fish and fight strong. The excitement is in seeing them go arial, a lot like a herring. Albeit 5 kilos at a time versus nothing.
I still very much prefer the Tailor for a fight. The big guys will really test your technique and gear.
