Sea Sweep

Has any one caught and kept sea sweep for the dinner table before? I caught two yesterday and released one and have just finished eating a fillet and was quite impressed. It was actually a lot less fishier tasting and better textured flesh than the skippy I got. Any one caught a fish they thought would taste terrible but got a pleasant suprise at the dinner table?

Sea sweep
We caught some when we first moved to Perth.Initially didnt know what they were but kept one for i.d. Found a nice firm white fillet which was good on the plate, also found them similar to small pinkies as far as landing was concerned i.e. headshake once hooked.
Not a fish i would target but certainly could turn a poor day into a feed, and lots of fun to catch and release

sweep
i think they are also quiet nice but make sure too keep them as cold as possible because they mainly eat weed they are more of a vegatarian fish so when you leave it in the sun for a while it has a funny smell so make sure its bled and on the ice and filleted as soon as possible.
fish hard fish safe fish for the future

Good call
With ya there Foz, called both of mine for snapper and was a bit disappointed when they came up. Still very impressed with the eating qualities and I didn't bleed it either. Next time will definately bleed and gut straight up. Cheers fellas.
