Round knobs or T handles for spinning reels
Submitted by kknlk on Tue, 2009-01-27 16:02
Does anyone know where this has been discussed? Want to know what people's experiences and preferences are as well as when are round knobs better or vice versa. If someone can point me to a technical discussion that will be great too.

Dont think there have been
Dont think there have been much discussion about it. its personal preferences thing. I love both but spinning I prefer round and overheads I prefer T-bars. If you wind with speed easy with a round one as you can get a good grip but still manouerable in your hand. T-bar is for winching therefore for overheads are ideal, you can get a firm hold of it. The knob ideally should be offset away from the reel abit. When you winch, your elbow is not tucked into the side of your body but more 45 degrees out.
That's my theory on the 2 types of knobs.

Well...it used to be only
Well...it used to be only available to top end Daiwas and Shimanos. Now you can get drill out jobs for any reel. Downside is you cant put the original knob back on coz the shaft is drilled out.

About $50 upwards. The soft touch ones are nice, but I dont really have a need for them (unless i get a 4000 sol or certate....) link
Tackleshack have some small ally ones that are pretty well priced (although you may have to drill your handle)

There's 3 different RCS knob that will fit the Heartland. RCS medium or large EVA knob, both are round and the RCS ally round knob. The ally one is around $90 and the Eva ones are around $50-60

Definately prefer after market round knobs when jigging and popping... If you're just bottom bouncing I don't think it'd make much difference.

EVA
Anyone used the EVA ones? Got the Ally RCS for my Certate 4000 and was looking at the EVA ones for a 2500R but was told they get slippery if they get wet.
If this is the case I will probably get the ally again but I was hoping to fit a smaller size on the 2500 size reel.

Ive got the EVA one on my 2500 certate and its nice to use. Definately not slippery when wet. Ive also changed my ally one on my 4000 to a large EVA one as well. Used it on Sunday wet and slimy, still got plenty of grip and I didnt use my gloves.
