Round 9 - A Tale of Two Harleys
Word is that Freo's recruiters are keeping a close eye on players name Ducati, Suzuki or Honda as it appears they'll be a lot more reliable and dependable than players recently brought into the side.
West Coast are still not playing their best footy but have a few players (Sheed, Duggan, Shepherd etc) starting to hit their straps and are facing an Essendon with their tales up. The key will be to shut down a potential future Brownlow medallist in Zac Merrett and making sure that Daniher doesn't hug any of our players (or kick too many goals). Lecca to kick a bag and West Coast to get up in this on.
Freo should win comfortably although this game last year provided much mirth when the Blues got up and the owen jokes unexpecedly continued on... for another 5 weeks. The biggest question is whether Kawasaki Bennell will be handing out his pearls of wisdom to his 'team mates' during the breaks.
Pies and the Hawks are playing off to see who gets the better draft pick. I'm going for the Pies simply because the Hawks gave up their first pick to the Saints for a bloke they can't even get on the park!

I dont see the game has passed Hodgie, Of course his role has had to change but right now he's in the Hawks best 22 and you cant tell me there is a club in the comp that wouldnt want Burgoyne in their side even though he's up n down in his form more nowadays but again that could come down to the team asking too much from him....
To change tack, I thought the same thing about Ricky Ponting when IMO he was forced into retirement basically by the negative reporting that continually went on late in his career ( i know he wasnt the punter of old but fuck how much pressure was put on the bloke )...
Until there was someone better to take Pontings position at 3 he should have been free to play out his career, and to me if Hodge isnt taking a large chunk of salary cap then fuck why wouldnt you have him as a listed player.....
If the Hawks were playing better footy then no one would be concerned about Hodge and co....
Also you have to remember our backline has been decimated now with injuries, Stratton, Frawley and Burchall were all out on the weekend so when you play a kiwi that was playing in his second game ( he went alright mind you ) there is going to be much more heat on the seniour players like Hodge down there...
If Mitchell was still at the Hawks would he also be ( still ) too old and too slow?
Anyway the Hawks have alot of work to do but hopefully get a few players back and give it a nudge in the second half of the year, in the meantime the youngins can have a dig...
