rotto trip?? help needed?

Hi guys and ladies,

I'm heading to rotto on the 30/01/09 over the weekend. It's my first time going to rotto, so just wondering for an opinion of what's there to do over there? and where is a good place to fish? and what kind of fish to you get over there at that time of the year? It will be a bike and camping trip so where is the place to go? where to camp?

Thx guys.

I am pretty sure you are only allowed to stay in units cabin etc not to sure if they have closed down the camping site but do now you are not allowed to just camp anywhere on rotto mate.

week you might be lucky and get a camping spot Troy.
Give the Rottnest Island Board a call. There are some ok fishing spots near the camping area too.(Colin 1 - Co-founding member of the prestigious Colin Club)

Your not allowed to camp of

Your not allowed to camp of the beach or anywhere apart from the designated camping grounds which are fairly small now they have been reduced (due to aboriginal heritage grounds or something). If the ranger/police catch you camping on the beach they can charge you $500 and evict you from the Island. They are normally pretty onto it over peak season as well so i wouldn't advise doing it.

definitely cannot camp there

Camping on the beaches at Rotto is a BIG no-no. If you try, you WILL get busted. That is basically all the rangers there do, is look for people camping outside the official camp-site.

As for fishing,  most places are good - but to see where you can NOT fish, check here:

Try Geordie bay for some whiting action... :-)
