...I can certainly live with this, seems very fair. One point of interest that might be missed (towards the end of the pdf file) is the slot limit size for tailor has been reduced to 50cm...important to remember for a lot of fishos on here.
They also mention the "medium risk" species bag limit will be reduced from 16 to 12, and then identify skippy, tailor and kgs as "medium risk". I always thought the bag limit on those fish was 8, or did I misread it?
The fact that they've come up with this solution shows just how far off the mark they were with the original proposal...I think we can all pat ourselves on the back for kicking up such a ruckus about it!
Oh, Bodie...the way I read it, apart from the 2 dhuies per boat, there is no boat limit as such (apart from crabs/squid/crays)...still 4 category 1 fish per angler (high risk species) up to two anglers, then 2 for each angler after that. BUT, those four can't be all demersal scalefish...only 2, plus 2 high risk pelagics.
So you can have one dhufish, one snapper, and two spaniards, for example.
only two demersals per boat? thats alittle tight aint it ? I mean 2 dhus OK but then we should be able to fill the rest with baldchin n snapper if we are lucky...
Re read the faq on the page let me see if I get this right, 2 Dhuies per boat max and not ac`tual boat limits just bag limits so per fisher 2 demersals but not exceeding 2 dhuies ? am I right ??
"The main elements of the new arrangements are as follows:
•
A mixed bag limit of two “high risk” demersal scalefish species, of which only one may be a dhufish, will apply in the West Coast Bioregion (Kalbarri to Augusta);
•
A boat limit of two dhufish will apply in the West Coast Bioregion"
Do I require a Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence to fish from the shore of an island, such as Rottnest Island for example?
You do not require a Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence to fish from the shore of an island. However, you will require a Recreational Fishing from Boat Licence if you use a registered vessel to support your fishing activity (if you transport recreationally-caught fish off an island by boat, for example). Passengers travelling on commercial ferry services or barges on normal public transit routes will not be required to hold a Recreational Fishing Boat Licence.
You can bring in two Greg. One Dhu and a nice baldie say. Few big KG's can be added to the bag if you know where to look. Personally if i was bottom bashing by my self i'd be more than happy to bring in a couple of fish, and release a few with the release weight.
In regards to Auslobster's comments refering to MED Risk fish, you are correct; however, the bag limit is 16 unless specified as different, such as Skippy's etc(8). I think there will have to be new brochures introduced to define this clearly.
In regards to the WCDS fish and Pelagic rules, 1 rec boat may take only 2 WCDS fish mixed bag, of which only 1 can be a Dhu (this used to be 8 - 2 Dhu 2 Pinkies only 1 over 700 etc) and a boat limit of 2 Dhu if there are 2 or more people onboard.
In addition, a Rec boat may also take 2 high risk Pelagic species, eg Spaniards etc.
This pretty much makes up 4 priced fish bag, 2 from WCDS fish Cat and 2 from Pelagic Cat which comes into line with the 50% bag limit reduction as propossed by Rec Fish West in response to the Ministers propossal.
Hope this helps. The FAQ's sheet is a little confussing across the board so lets hope there is some clarification with new brochures before the opening.
you are right i wll just have to change my ways as i catch 75% dhu and i dont think catch and release dhuies is good sport dont get me wrong i release all under size and i just call it quits when i had my share i hardly ever bagged out
Yep just gotta look for different fish. I try and not target dhus these days, i prefer a few baldies or pinkies for the plate, then try find some sambos on the jig.
Well, well who would have thought commonsense would prevail, I think the shipments of fish from the research boat didnt help the situation one bit, reading the Opinion Column of Wednesday's Paper, makes for interesting reading.
OK 2 demersals 1 dhuie and a bald chin like u brody i recon baldies taste better then dhuies :) but I can see how upsizing may happen as we are only allowed 2 high risk and I think most fish are considered high risk ? even bA ? so after 2 BA on the bank u can head back in...
What also concerns me is 12 months have passing since they slashed limits & removed pros out of the metro area in their own words these are slow growing fish so how can u re-evaluate something in 12 months time ? and decide shit wee need to do more ? so now we slash a second time and in 12months time how and what will be the ooutlook ? shit we need to slash it some more as none of the changes will really have had time to kick in yet. Yes in 5 years time it will be wonderfull for the fish as I ssupect we wont be allowed to catch any.
I would have liked keeping the max of 4 fish as I also tend to head out often by myself and now if I get 2BA's wich dont come up to healthy from 40m I duno what I will do.

there will be a bag limit of 1 per person with a max of 2 on a rec boat.
Charters have a different boat limit.

auslobster, The bag limits
auslobster,
The bag limits for Tailor, KGs, and Skippy will still stay at 8 each,
but the mixed daily bag limit will go from 16 to 12.

Old fart is study it now, printed it off for him to read. Better catch some fish next week as we'll be in Leeman, fingers crossed, freezer empty.
Edited......Its got a question mark on the $30 license fee for next March, does that mean they might bring it in earlier?
