Hi I need your help
I have a Okuma SD55L it has Star Drag and a line thing to put the line on the reel in an ordinary fasion but also harness clips
I was just packing up for a trip to lancelin beach this weekend but as i was packing the reel and giving the handle a turn but the line thingy would not move but the rest of the reel does,should I take this off or keep it clogged as i am going to Lancelin tomorrow at 6 am so no tackle stores open. should I take it off or not and if so how??

Busted reel.
You should just leave it at home and get it checked out after the trip. It can be many issues, ie. levelwind pawl jammed, gear jammed or bearing seized.

First off spray the pawl (the
First off spray the pawl (the under bit the level wind runs on its all cris cross design) with some WD40 or something Then, see if you can make the level wind move by applying some pressure to the level wind set up as you turn the reel handle. Just gentle pressure pushing it to the side. You should feel which way it wants to go.
If it wont move, its worn somewhere usually the little saddle in the level wind holder, so take it off, but take all the parts with you, you might get one somewhere.
Either way you can still use the reel, you will just have to ahve dexterous fingers if the level wind is inoperable

i only have 2 over head reels
i only have 2 over head reels which are strong so now i will only have one for trolling

sounds like the little lug
sounds like the little lug on the worm drive has busted a tooth or has seized up. have had both probs in the past and i just removed them . no harm to the reel , just need to thumb the line on evenly to the reel. takes practice but once you have worked it out it wont be a prob
