Does anyone know any details of the rescue off Exmouth last nite. I heard a boat hit a whale & the 3 or 4 occupants were rescued by a ship 4 hours later. Can anyone throw some more light onto it. Cheers Rob

Exmouth rescue
Three men were rescued off Exmouth early this morning after a whale sank their 14-metre boat.
The crew, who were travelling from Port Sampson home to Geraldton, spent four hours in rough seas before they were found.
The men, aged 23, 48 and 50, arrived at Exmouth a short time ago and walked from the rescue vessel. They appeared in a good spirits, according to a witness.
A police spokesman said that about 11.30pm last night the wooden recreational vessel struck trouble about 8km west of Exmouth Peninsula.
The crew broadcast a mayday and activated their Epirb.
One of the men was a non-swimmer so the trio roped themselves together.
Police Rescue, Volunteer Rescue and merchant shipping were alerted and the men were picked up by a passing BHP supply boat, the Pacific Wrangler. a short time ago.
They are on now being assessed at Exmouth Hospital.
WA Water Police officer-in-charge Sen.Sgt Greg Trew said initially a tanker, the Eagle Corona, located the men but couldn't get close enough to safely pull them aboard.
Sen. Sgt Trew said the men were very fortunate given the rough conditions.Deckie

very lucky
I was listening to Greg Trew on the radio and he said the conditions were so deplorable no rescue boat could be launched. 6nm off north west cape is equivalent to 40nms from Exmouth and 90nm from Coral Bay.
These are very lucky fishermen.

good to hear
Its good to hear every one was rescued and safe, i question that there was no mention of the three guys getting into their own life raft which you would expect they should have been carrying in open waters for such a size boat they were on ?

14m Timber boat travelling
14m Timber boat travelling from Pt Samson to Gero? Im guessing just idling along with autopilot on. Must of hit side on and split the hull.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?
