? Reel Maintainence ?
Submitted by PerthGlory on Wed, 2011-01-26 12:44
being relativley new to fishing I have sensibly started out with lower priced equipment. I now have the bug for life and its time to indulge with a Saragosa 8000f. Naturally I want to keep this baby in good condition.
after fishing I thoroughly wash the reel in freshwater and leave to dry.
Is there anything more i need to do on a regular basis to extend the life of the reel?
thanks

General maintenance
What you done is fine. You can also lightly spray the reel down with a reel lubricant that can displaces the remainder of saltwater on the reel, also leaves a fine film to protect and lubricates the reel. We use "Reel Deal", which is non-aerosol reel lubricant spray.
Every so often (once every 2mths...) you can oil the bearings and the main shaft. We use "Protecta" reel oil, it comes with a fine tip steel nozzle to get into the small areas to oil your bearings. 1 or 2 drops of this stuff does wonders to the bearings.

Hi;What you doing is fine.
Hi;
What you doing is fine. Another tip.
When spraying with fresh water, tighten your drag to ensure no water gets into the reel. Once done, completly loosen the drag, this will prolong the life of your washers and drag system. Then lube the reel.

Machine oil
Use some light machine oil on all moving parts and some light marine grade grease on your gears. Unix works well as a water displacement spray
