Redfin after rain and mud?
Submitted by fishnut on Mon, 2012-05-07 10:20
I spent the weekend on the Capel river trying to hunt Redfin with no luck at all - not even a bite - used red spinners, hardbodies, plastic grubs, crawfish, minnows, earthworms, aniseed spray... I am hoping some of the reddie experts can help. After all this rain, the water was seriously muddy and visibility would have been shocking. Does this affect success for reddies? Is it the wrong time of the year? More than likely, it is just that I am useless at freshwater fishing. I was thinking about going to Logue Brook next week (LB) - is it worth it? Any tips or advice greatly appreciated!!!

Dirty water will kill it
Finding the structure holding the fish is the first problem and then presenting something smelly enough for them to find it - wait until it clears and they will be ravenous

When the river is starting to
When the river is starting to run target the top end of the pool they will be hiding in the structure waiting for minnows and shrimp washed down

I often find the same
I often find the same fishnut, once the rain starts for the year and the water gets dirtier colder and higher flow the redfin seem to go off the bite..? if anything worms would probably be your best bet or a bright red hardbody :) capel river in the dryer months usually is full of decent fish.
