Red Bass . . Ciguatera risk ?
Submitted by marble on Mon, 2011-04-25 09:30
We ended up with a nice red bass on the weekend and are wondering if they are much of a ciguatera risk . He was caught out from Exmouth. Have eaten Chinamen from around the same area with no problems so hoping the Bass will be ok.
Cheers Ben

Used to eat a few in the NT.
Used to eat a few in the NT. Never had a problem but didn't think much of their eating qualities. The big ones are a bit dry.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Kept a 20kg one once that wouldn't release, can't say I rate them on the plate.

there is no risk AFAIK over
there is no risk AFAIK over west, i've eaten Chinaman no worries but on the chew, no idea but it seems the smaller the better.

Both Chinaman and Red Bass
Both Chinaman and Red Bass are no take on the Great Barrier reef. The main reason due to Ciguatera risk. There are plenty of them so it's not about numbers!
