Never had a mulloway not
Never had a mulloway not have bone rattling headshakes. Though last one i caught, halfway through the battle didn't headshake and for the first time i knew what people meant by feeling like a ray. Still it would headshake every 2mins or so. Its instintive to throw the hooks on first hook up (headshakes).
They are a fish, and don't 'sit on the floor', they are always moving. Usually side to side rather they away with mulloway.
No headshakes from first hook up, sucking to the floor. I think you might be trying to tussle with a ray there mate. One of those big ugly black round rays at a guess with the sucking.

Furthermore, rays seemingly
Furthermore, rays seemingly never give up. Mulla's give up, few big runs then they are spent. They clean fight, just have to be patient on the drag and he's yours.

If no headshakes is the case
And I am with Spence, the dozen or so I have caught have always shook the hell out of the rod, but fish respond to the angle of attack of the line. In a boat if you want to keep the fish from jumping you drop the angle on the line, some fish dive instead of jump if you keep the rod tip high.
I may postulate that because E shed is up high the angle may actually cause the Mulla to dive and play a different game to the way they behave from the beaches. I dont know, just a theory that might account for it.

Agree with the angle
I have got a few from shore and a few from a boat in the sound. The ones from the boat had me guessing what the were until i saw them.
Fighting them straight up and down from the boat they didnt seem to head shake very much .
