Hawaii went on full alart and when a small wave did roll in they where all very relieved that they dodged the bullet, then again they have learnt the hard way with many dead before when waves have rolled in.
This was a 8.8 mag quake in the same area that produced a massive 9.2+ in the past, the most destructive quake ever! so the region has a history of massive quakes and tsunami's from it
last alert said that a wave could take anything from 10hours to 16hours to reach us after the quake, so it's not cut and dry science in predicting the results.
