Pinkies in the Budget

Snapper Guardians is continuing to be a success with the government finally stepping up to contribute too

'Recfishwest are delighted with the state government’s budget commitment today which will see $300,000 over the next 2 years towards the release of more Pink Snapper fingerlings into Cockburn Sound.

People stood up and made a pledge to chip in towards a solution, and it’s great to see the government throw their support behind this initiative.

This contribution will allow on-ground activities to focus directly on maintaining and protecting health fish stocks to support better fishing. It will also provide opportunities for the community to get involved.

Recfishwest are also in ongoing discussion with authorities to ensure rapid response protocols are established to safeguard the health this important waterway.

Recreational fishers are champions of sustainable fish stocks and healthy fish habitats, and we look forward to rolling up our sleeves and making the next release as successful as the first!'

Good news, but IMO no good

Good news, but IMO no good releasing snapper if they don't clean up the sound first.
$300000 is cheap, makes it look like they are doing something to address the snapper kills.
Fix the sound and the snapper will grow in numbers.
But this is just my view.
I have seen the sound change in the last 45 years, mussel beds just off the beaches, crabs, tailer pinks etc.

Who spends money pouring healthy fish into at best a polluted environment... that's really a knee-jerk  irrational response.  Why not buy it the pros or close the West Coast season for everyone? ..  pros included...   to give nature the chance to restock. Toy should see the boats here going about their business 400 metres from shore..yeah I've got photos.  DoF complete Closed season approach is totally flawed...  they allow it to continue down here out of Bunbury to collect valuable data.... ffs.

It's enough to make you vomit

I think it could turn out to be a bit of a waste of time to release the fingerlings while there are so many salmon around also. It will be interesting to see what and if the large salmon schools that have invaded the metro area have had on the local bread and butter fish.

They were released well before the salmon began there best migration in years.

Water Temps and the coming La Nino has seen to that!

When will Rec fish west inform the people that actually catch the wild stock eggs of suddenly being cashed up???
