My old jig outfit is my new
My old jig outfit is my new tuna troller. Its an xyoga pe3 rod and an avet sx loaded with 8kh mono.
If you wanted something new, I'd consider one of the smaller daiwa saltist lever drags, in single speed.

Depends
Depends on your budget. I am planning on doing the same this year with 2 combos 1 is a tld25 and boat rod 50lb braid long mono leader. The other will be Penn international 30tw which is my LB balloon reel and I will match it with a Wilson short stroker. It is spooled with 80lb which is overkill but will do the job and saves buying annother combo

y so heavy rig? 50lb sounds
y so heavy rig? 50lb sounds very heavy for the little tuna we get here.
look at the TLD range cheap, and good the 15 would be my pick. and just get a rod to match.

Agree with Till, my Calcutta
Agree with Till, my Calcutta has become the troller for salmon and tuna, put on an old OH rod. Nothing too special required.
Contender 25T - good hezza boat

Bottom bashing
I use it for bottom bashing also danno. I don't see the need for another reel with lighter line. Tuna are the bycatch for spaniards anyway

If you are targetting SBTs or Striped Tuna
PE3 line is overkill in Perth imo. I run 4kg mono on a Live Fibre 4-6kg rod and a Shimano Charter Special. Not expensive, knocks them over easy and good fun.

I use a tld 20 with 10kg
I use a tld 20 with 10kg mono for all my trolling, has landed all sorts 20kg wahoo mackies big tuna. Dont go too heavy especially for tuna which is generally open water.
If it's just for trolling use mono so you have some stretch, results in a better hook up rate. In saying that there is a new wire( if you can call it that) that is designed for braid and it stretches!

as john said. nothing too special required
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.
