the 50 is a big reel mate, only really suited to bigger trolling in my opinion.

own a 30, amazingly smoothh mate!

50 is just crazyily big! and near impossible to cast, although people still use them for casting...

if you dont think 500m braid backing with around 200m topshot isnt enough, so a 700m run. i dont think anything will stop that ahahah

but the torium 30 is a reeeel nice reel mate, would recommend it...

talk to Cuthbad he has a Torium 30 and has tested it beyond limits!

Hi mate I also hahe a shimano

Hi mate I also hahe a shimano torium 30 , as many others have stated the 50 is a much larger reel, probably to big for many things. The shimano torium is a very smooth reel lots of line capacity an a good drag system. I use mine for a bottom bashing outfit with 300 metres of braid and 100 metres of mono for back, I have 50lb whiplash braid, which is suitable for a huge range of fish. I have pulled in sharks , rays and numerous other species up on it with ease, i love the drag on it really smooth and easily accessable when fighting a large fish. Highly recommended reel.  good luck mate

mate the torium 30 is a

mate the torium 30 is a beautifull reel! Going up to the 50 size is gonna cost you at least 20m of casting distance, probably more. As has been said, if you cant stop it in 700m, is the extra few hundred meters really gonna help? Stick with the 30, if one day you need to upgrade, then so be it. Rather fish with a more comfortable reel in the main time!

2 things though I would highly recommend upgrading the drag washers to carbontex before too long, big improvement! Secondly, at some point in the future maybe think about adding the spring loaded anti-reverse pawl from the TN30, gives more peace of mind. Im only mentioning this for the long run though. Not something to worry about soon.

Awesome reel, in my mind the best reel for the job, though I might be a bit biased. As far as rods, have a search mate a couple of people have posted about heavy duty surf rods recently.

Any questions mate, feel free to msg me, its a style of fishing im passionate about so happy to help!

Cheers
