original hand-carved, painted, signed, and numbered Fred Young 'Big-O' crankbait #2065
I have an original hand carved and signed by Fred Young balsa "Big-O"
crankbait. It was given to my grandfather by Fred himself at Calvary
Baptist Church in Oak Ridge Tennessee. Both Fred and my grandfather
were deacons there. It is also the church I grew up in. This lure has
been in a box, unused for over thirty years. My mother recently found
it. It is in excellent condition, and has never been in the water. I
contacted Pradco (Cotton Cordell) and spoke to someone named Ryan. He
said they would probably be very interested in the crankbait, and that
he wanted to contact his bosses first, then someone would be calling
me. Apparently they are assembling some type of museum exhibit and he
felt they may want it for that. I have contacted a few other
professional anglers and/or bass magazine editors, but haven't gotten a
definate answer yet. But I just started contacting people yesterday. My
quesion is...does anyone out there know what it's actually worth, and
would anyone be interested in buying it. I believe we have two more
somewhere, but so far I have only found the one. I believe Bobby Murray
(the man who originally knew Fred and brought the lure to Cordell
initially) is one of the people Ryan was going to contact. We're trying
to find something out about it before we have to talk to these people
from Pradco. I'd apprecitate any help! Thanks!! Gary My phone number is
