Octo jigs

Finally got out to the first bank off Jurien yesterday...we got our quota of baldies and a few of them hit the octa. I did notice that all fish caught this way, including an u/s dhuie and one of those spiky venomous things, were hooked on the outside of the mouth. It appears the fish were hitting the actual head of the jig, and the hooks were swinging around and jagging it from the outside.
Anyone else notice this when using this type of lure?

Pretty much all of mine were lip hooked. Often one in the top and another in the bottom. Mostly caught dhuies though, and they seem to nibble up the skirt til they hit the hooks (prob why its recommended to wind slowly as they're doing that). Not sure if it varies day to day, is mostly just the baldies, or perhaps different technique?
