Interesting that Jessica said
Interesting that Jessica said that the reasons are to protect biodiversity rather than protect fish stocks. Ummmm, how exactly does it affect biodiversity if the fish stocks are not the problem? Is the environment somehow being degraded by being allowed to fish there or is it just the biodiversity of the 'tasty' fish?

Come on Fella's
I heard the news item tonight from Norman Moore regarding Marine Parks and they should only be used as a last resort if every thing else failed and I must say I agree with him and at last we've got a Pollie on our side of the argument so lets not offend him by making some smart arse comments like a couple of responses posted here. Tim Nicol from the conservation council stated that all the big fish in the ocean are disappearing because of overfishing which made me laugh. Does this guy live in a cave or not? Just shows how baddly out of touch they are with what is happening out on the ocean. Norman Moore has my support not because he's a Lib. pollie but because he's showing some common sense which is a rare commodity among a lot of his compatriates. Go Norman.

Still missing the point, he
Still missing the point, he isn't on your side, he just wants what you want and that is pretty different. Still, you're delusional if you don't think that there needs to be changes in management practices.

Im happy to discuss
I hope norman is getting a little more common sense. The rock lobster industry is wrecked and being at the meetings which norman was at, you realize he doesnt give a toss.

All I know is something has
All I know is something has to change worldwide, as new technology, more humans and greed will continue to destroy fish population. Check out yellowfinstocks worldwide.....they are depleting and fast. I think australia is better than most but does not mean we can't do better.
I just sponsored green peace to go harrass tuna purse sein fishermen in the pacific.

Mate sorry to say you wasted
Mate sorry to say you wasted your money with GP. They'll just use it to advertise and get more sponsorship.
If you really want to help you need to support SSCS. They will actually use the money to campaign with.
Change is needed. BUT i think the change needs to be better policing. Honestly i get sick of seeing limits being broken and nothing done about it. I read on here that people were caught and cautioned. WHY charge them. Because if they continue to do it stocks will be depleted and then a ban will come around. People like you and me will than have to stop. BUT the law breakers will keep it up and just continue to get cautioned.
Better policing and better managemnet will make a huge difference IMHO that will be enough

Honestly why does fisheries
Honestly why does fisheries need a new Niad ever five or sixr months worth over $500000 each time only to give out cautions to everyone who breaks the law?

funny you said that, saw a
funny you said that, saw a report on East coast of how these guys, including water police replace motors at 1000 hrs and boats every 4 to 5 years. Whats wrong with a commercial vessel that lasts 30 years??? and using diesel motors that can last 10,000 hrs????

Beware trusting a Pollie, it can be dangerous Howard, I for one would like to see all his cards on the table before I take sides.
Marine parks must be worrying the hell out of the Commercial sector and don't forget who Norman has been siding with in the past??
I have similar beliefs to till on this one and I'm sure their are a lot of others that feel the same.
I didn't vote green by the way..

The way I See It
I don't trust any Pollie Sqidder it's just not in my nature but the management and policing of marine parks is done under a Joint management arrangement between both State and Commonwealth governments using I assume the revenue generated by the Recreation Fishing License and if the views of Rec-fishers are not listened to there is a simple way of having an influence and that is because the management of the recreational fishery relies entirely on catch details provided by rec-fishers and they need acurate information to assertain whether the fishery is sustainable or not. There is no Legistration that say's that information has to be correct and i'm not advercating that people don't tell the truth but on some occasions I have a very selective memory and I'm sure there's alot of people just like me especially if they feel their being shafted. If Norman Moore want's to flirt with the greens and speak with a forked tongue so as to speak be my guest but the ramifications for fisheries could be counter productive and end up very messy. I'm sure our fisheries minister realises this.

This why I don't favour his side of the fence.
Norman Moore states his position on angler exclusion zones
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wa … nctuaries/
State Fisheries Minister Norman Moore has slammed marine sanctuaries as a "ridiculous notion" that will jeopardise the viability of WA's commercial fishing sector.
