My new rig

After much debate and analysis of financial situations I finally did what congress could not and got approval from the financial controller to by a new boat. Much as I would have liked a nice big center cabin the only rule was it had to have somewhere for the young fella to sleep so SWMBO could come out for a fish occasionally.

Really was leaning towards a 6m haines or similar, but after taking a close look at the old boat I really don't deserve to own anything but plate. Really wanted something that would handle going out wide, was big enough to overnight on, but still easy to tow north and launch on dodgy ramps and maybe even the odd beach.

Had been looking around the web for a while and had my eye on a new Stabicraft so went to the boat show and there she was, a brand new 659 in just the colour I wanted. Signed up on the spot and here it is. Handles the rough stuff beautifully, bone dry no matter what and is a dream to fish from as it does not list at all. Electronics are a 585 with a 1kw and a 8200 lowrance GM which is an awesome GPS.

Holth - what are you running. Mine came with a 17 and I swapped it back for a 16 but am not that happy with either. I felt that economy and top speed was better with the 17 but I could not pull over 5100 rpm. The 16 will pull 5300 with 4 on board but economy seems to be down on the 17. Also not sure how they relate but I thought the ride was better with the 17 as well.

simon, lm running a 150etec

Thu, 2008-10-02 09:49

simon, lm running a 150etec and the dealer had a 17"viper that only gave me 5000rpm.lm now on a 15"SST and have the rpms right at 5500.
as you would know motors have a idea rpm operating range but they also have an optimum rpm range.
these are the optimum rpms for the 2008 motors which you should be trying to get with your normal load.
150 - 5500-5600
175 - 5500-5600
200 - 5600-5850
as your pulling 5300 with the 16" with 4 people on board your very close.maybe give the 15 a try.also dont discount raising the motor as that can gain you 100/200 rpm aswell as give better fuel economy.

when l was running the 17" l was pulling 38knots but the motor was lagging at 5000rpm and not seeing its full potental.with the 15" lve lost 3 knots but out of the hole shot is fast and the mid rev range it will run at 25 knots no worries..
also when running at full noise is sounds awsome.
your bought a brillant motor , just need to get the best out of it.

Roger, count me in, hopefully with some more luck than last time considering the conditions.  It sad when all you can really do is troll for mackies.  Cry  Least we had a bit of fun on the tune styles and little macks at the fad.
