Mullaway and sand?

Question gang?
Something that's been bugging me for years on and off, and I finally recalled it whilst I was in here, so I'll pop the question:
Many years ago, my twin brother caught a mulla in shark bay somewhere, shore fishing.
He froze it and brought it home.
When we defosted it and prepared the fillet pieces, we noticed that there was sand right through the flesh - not just inside the sales, or just beneath the skin, but deep down and right through the flesh.
Any theories, thoughts, explanations why this would occur?

This was definately sand,
This was definately sand, and he would have had to fire the mulla into the sand with a cannon to get that penetration I reckon.

or small areas,because it could have of gotten under the scales and over time burowed into the flesh

That'll teach you for freezing mulloway, yeeeeuk!! Deep sea mulloway is a bit different, can't say I really rate it creek/shore mulla's, another case of each to their own. As for sand through the flesh, could possibly have burst the stomach lining filleting and some got in there. Apart from that, maybe deposited by worms, not really sure mate.

sebsktm - yeah, right through the flesh, very deep past the skin. I was thinking the same thing as you suggested until I saw how deep the sand went.
Ads - Mate, not ME, my evil twin brother (he's the antithesis of me
) - again, the ubiquitous penetration (of the sand) suggests it wasn't the result of any disfunctional filleting. Deposted by worms - YES, worm castings would suggest your idea has plausable credablity.
