Monties with a trailer boat advice please
Submitted by Stevo81 on Tue, 2013-05-07 18:13
G'day guys starting to do some research into a trailer boat trip to the Monties. Fuel is my biggest concern. We have a 513ltr fuel tank and use about 2.2ltr per mile when we are loaded up and travelling over for our abrolhos trips. how does this compare to others? Would love to hear from those who have done it before in regards to thefollowing
Boat and outboard/s
fuel capacity
fuel used
Launch site
travel time
trip duration
best time of year
Any other relevant info
cheers and thanks in advance

I was there last weekend. Not my boat so here is what I know:
Boat and outboard/s: Trailer boat, center console, inboard enguine, not much help there
fuel capacity: I dont know
fuel used : I dont know
Launch site: Dampier Boat Ramp
travel time: 2:45ish. It was a glass off. Usually it is around 3 hours ish.
trip duration: 2 Nights
best time of year: NOW! best winds in the next few weeks. Was also neap tides so great! but in a few weeks time although, apparently it will start blowing howling easterlies.

Hey mate we just got back
Hey mate we just got back yesterday here's what we used.
boat and outboard: proline 26 300hp suzi and an inflateable tender with 6hp
fuel capacity: 650l tank 220l in jerey cans
fuel used: about 500l
launch site: dampier
travel time: 3.5 hours but fished our way over (cruised on 25knots)
Time spent 4 days
ice took. 1 120l xtreme esky with block ice(lasted 4 days) 100l techni ice esky with cube ice(lasted 1day) and a 40l engel & generator. Next time I will take 1 esky and 2 Engels
Miles travel: not sure but we went everywhere from barrow island to tryall rocks and out wide chasing billies, didn't hold back on fuel usage
We had 4 people on board and we were loaded up big time but Evan with all that extra weight we only used about 8lph more then normal which I was very supprised with (58lph at 25 knots fully loaded)
we enjoyed every minute of the trip can't wait to get back over there!

if you have
if you have 500lts plus fuel capacity you aren't going to have any dramas take a 12 foot dingy with you and you will have fun to the max fishing out of it leave from 40 mile and you will chop of about 20 miles getting there as the previous resposes said you best do it soon when before the wind sets in
