mmmmmmmmmm Grayband cod

OK the day was here, flat seas and we were out to catch a Grayband cod ,well after two hours of getting the s$%# shaken out of us we arived in the 200-300m mark.there was a very strong tide running from the north whitch was why it was so lumpy, anyway down with the lines down down down.4hours of fishing a moving and we were knackered, still no COD. I take my hat of to you guys who go out to catch these fish .You deserve every one you catch ,and have worked so hard to find . I think if people knew how much effot goes into cathing these fish they to would look up to the fishos who fish these depths, well done and look forward to the next pics of the cod that you catch. As for me i'll stick to the old Dhuies .We did end up with fish yesterday ,Jody will be putting up a post and some pics.

Hard work eh!!  Can't say I've ever done it but could imagine it would be hard slog.  Was there much to work with on the sounder?

A flat day would be ok, but its a long way to go and a long way to pull them up.

it sure is a long way down, sorry you missed out on one

we have gone out that far 3 or 4 times only ever got two of them

the guys that get them spend lots of time travelling around to find them and eventually get the rewards

one day you will be out there and get one and the taste makes it all worth while

LOL

LOL. At least you put the effort in to get out there and give it a go Paul. Dont know if I can say the same about the effort Jesse put in thou.

It's one of those forms of fishing that doesnt appeal to everyone and can certainly test your patience. Lots of ground to cover out there and lots of pickers like Green Eye's and Knife Jaws to steal baits.

It can get better. I wouldnt mind getting half the Dhuies etc you do.

Good onya for putting in the effort mate.....just a matter of time. Tim & Vagabond do well on em with heaps if dedication. I get the greys when targetting Rubys but to target/get these bigger ones is awesome!

Sat, 2009-02-07 17:08

Yes im sure i'll try again one day .But weve been getting some new ground which looks very promising, for dhuies and baldies, found a new lump last trip ,and a large ridge runnng NW picked up some nice dhuies of a couple of drifts.needs a little further attention,as im sure there is miles of ground there just need to put in the time ,now just get the wind to drop.

Are the grey bands found all

Mon, 2009-02-09 11:59

Are the grey bands found all the way down the coast?

Heading down to hamelin bay soon and taking the boat along. 150+ metres isnt that far out from there, just wondering what you get down there in the 150 - 250 metre marks?

Cheers.

Mon, 2009-02-09 13:32

March longweek Bodie?  If so, might see you there.  Have about 15 crazy divers there each year.  Would be up for a deep fish too though.

Cheers Pete

Wed, 2009-02-11 07:52

thats the first weekend in March yeh???

Im down there from the 17th march for 2 weeks.

Yeah crays are good down that way, altho now people know about it, probably wont be that way for too much longer.

Luckily most people arent game enough to get their boats in where we put our pots :)

Hey Tim thanks for the info. What types of depths do Hapuka live in? I have heard some say they are above 5 star eating too!!

Cheers
